Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Nursery (NICU)

Overview The ICN is a 30-bed Intensive Care Nursery caring for acutely ill and premature infants from all over the state of NH and parts of the state of VT. The care we provide is patient and family centered, with the family encouraged to be present and participate in their baby’s care from the beginning. They are considered part of the care team. Nurses provide care to infants who are critically ill as well as convalescing with nurse to patient ratios that range from 1:1 to 1:3. Primary nursing is encouraged and contributes to family satisfaction. There are many opportunities for professional growth from participation in our unit based practice council and one of our many quality improvement projects. In addition, there is a two person high risk neonatal transport team which includes an ICN RN who has been trained to provide this level of care along with a respiratory care practitioner. This is a FT 3x12hr shift position ROTATING 7a-7p, 7p-7a across all weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Responsibilities The Clinical Nurse is an engaged and credentialed member of the Professional Nursing Organization and is responsible for autonomous practice directed by the professional tenets of practitioner, leader/decision maker, scientist and transferor. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide evidence-based care and to continuously monitor and evaluate practice to ensure safe passage of patients that is in the best interest of populations served. Practitioner Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care. Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process to anticipate and recognize changes in patient status, taking action to modify the plan of care or to elevate to the care team as necessary. Practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics to advocate for patients, uphold their autonomy in decision-making, ensure informed consent and assist patients in families in expressing self-determination. Actively seeks feedback and acts to improve performance. Engages in the governance of practice. Leader/Decision Maker Manages interpersonal relationships for self and with others. AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, NRP, and a trauma certification must be obtained before the end of orientation. Must obtain your EMT within one year from the end of your orientation. One specialty certification for example, CFRN must be obtained within 2 years of hire is required. 3 years of experience OR 4,000 hours as a RN is required from an ICU or ER setting.Experience as an EastCare Flight Paramedic per department policy may qualify as applicable years of experience. The ability to treat patients under EastCare protocols is determined by the EastCare Medical Director. All employees who were employed as a Flight Nurse and weigh no more than 250 pounds before January 1, 2019, are considered grandfathered in terms of weight requirements, and therefore competent to perform their duties and responsibilities. Any grandfathered employee who vacates their position and later seeks rehire as a Flight Nurse must meet the minimum position requirements existing at the time of rehire. Children's Transport Team Flight Nurses must meet the following requirements: AHA PALS, NRP must be obtained before the end of orientation. EMT within one year from the end of orientation. One specialty certification in neonatal/pediatric field (for example C-NPT) obtained within 2 years of hire. 3 years of experience as a RN with some experience in neonatal, pediatric, or critical care field. Maintain a maximum weight limit of 250 pounds or less. The Flight Nurse hired prior to January 1, 2019 may maintain a maximum weight limit of 250 pounds or less. Responsibilities Day-to-Day tasks include, but are not limited to: Assist in the transport of our children to their appointments outside the facility Screen and provide an in-depth evaluation of the needs of ventilator & respiratory clients Consult with the attending physician regarding treatment protocol and make written recommendations for interdisciplinary care planning and treatment Inform residents or qualified representative about care and treatment plan and possible outcomes of treatment, or lack of treatment if resident refuses participation in a respiratory rehabilitation program Identify problems and develop a complete plan of care according to facility/unit policy and federal/state regulations Initiate ventilator weaning protocol and/or respiratory rehabilitation in accordance with the physician’s orders; maintain required contact with physician Maintain written records, evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries of residents receiving respiratory treatment and monitoring according to state, federal, and facility policies Attend, as necessary, and provide input at the Resident Care Planning (RCP) meetings for interdisciplinary team and the Resident/Family Care Plan Review Meeting; complete required documentation after the meetings Record resident’s plan of care in the Interdisciplinary Care Plan as required or as needed Contribute to the completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) within the established time frame and incorporate the results in the plan of care when appropriate Confer with personnel of other departments and provide required training to meet special needs of residents From Up to Qualifications Valid PA State license/registration to practice as Registered Licensed Nurse (RN) Minimum of two (2) years (RN) nursing experience Associates of Nursing required; Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred Pediatric experience strongly preferred Ability to supervise and work well with other personnel required Qualities of maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with others required Caring, respectful attitude towards residents required This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors.
