Educator will be responsible for ordering labs for patients according to hospital policies. Educator will be responsible for documenting education in electronic health record. This position will assist in the planning, coordinating and providing of diabetes-related health promotion activities in the YK Delta Region. Patients and activities are accessed via multiple village trips per month. Educator will work closely with village clinic and hospital staff to promote diabetes standards of care and inform of new advances in diabetes care. Educator assists Diabetes Coordinator with maintenance of the Diabetes Registry and grant requirements. Educator works closely with the Registered Dietitian Clinical Diabetes Educator and Diabetes Pharmacist to ensure comprehensive care of clients. Educator participates in all program outreach activities such as monthly Diabetes Support Groups and radio shows, media campaigns, and special events. Educator participates in department planning and goal setting to achieve excellence in patient care and partnership with our tribal leaders. Position Qualifications : Must have completed a program of education in nursing from an NLN approved institution. Minimum Associate's Degree in Nursing required. BSN or MSN preferred. New graduates (with relevant license-see below) may be considered. Two (2) years experience in a clinical health setting preferred. Demonstrated experience collaborating with a variety of disciplines for project completion. Background in Diabetes Education preferred. Valid license in good standing in the State of Alaska as a Registered Professional Nurse. Must obtain valid CDCES (Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist) certification within 2 yrs. Preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Work in a typical office, hospital, and village clinic setting. Comprehensive knowledge of PC computers. Ability to operate diabetes care medical equipment such as glucometer, ht./weight scale, etc. Requires travel to villages via small plane/sub-arctic conditions, moderate lifting of equipment, occasional long working hours.
