Registered Nurse, Cardiology Float

Job Summary Cardiology Float Pool Registered Nurse is responsible for providing quality care to patients prior to, during, and after cardiac stress testing, pre and post cardiac catheterization care, and monitoring patients during pacemaker MRI and CTA testing in accordance with department and hospital policy. The RN plans, directs and coordinates the daily schedule with inpatient and outpatients through communication with the supervisor and lead Cardiologists in the cardiology department and diagnostic imaging. Duties & Responsibilities Plans and carries out individualized stress tests for both inpatients and outpatients per physician order. Works closely with the Nursing staff and oversees performance of stress test including patient assessment and patient preparation. Working independently under the supervision of the cardiologist assigned to the stress patient, the RN will perform cardiac stress tests in conjunction with Cardiology staff on adult patients in the cardiac stress lab. Prior to the study, RN will review cardiac health history and will perform a limited physical exam to detect evidence of any of the following: a) heart murmur, b) heart failure, c) carotid bruit, d) gallop rhythm, e) edema, and f) vascular insufficiency and under the approval of cardiologist supervision, modify test if appropriate. RN will screen stress test orders for appropriateness and communicate inappropriate orders and/or possible contraindications to covering Cardiologist for further action and clarification. Monitors the patient throughout the test and in recovery as needed. Insertion and management of IV access for perfusion studies. Administer medications per protocol, including but not limited to Dobutamine and Dipyridamole. Assists Echo with Definity & Bubbles. Assists Cardiologist with CCTA Assessment and administration of medications. Interprets 12 lead EKG, comparing rest with exercise tracings. Notifies Physician any changes in patient’s condition or unexpected occurrences. Recognizes and initiates therapy for life threatening cardiac dysrhythmias under protocols and in accordance with ACLS standards. Compiles preliminary report and enters into stress system. Communicates with covering Cardiologist as appropriate for significant results Prepares patients for a cardiac catheterization and EP cases. Reviews health history and medications. Notifies cardiac interventionalist of any concerns with the patient. Cares for Post op cardiac catheterization patients and EP patients in the cardiac catheterization lab. Monitors Pacemaker MRI patients. Proficient in all clinical systems and data entry, Ensures individual patient’s rights including the right to confidentiality, privacy, dignity, safety and comfort. Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures. Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, inservices and/or reading journals. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Requirements BSN preferred and a minimum 4 years of direct experience caring for cardiac patients such as CCU or dedicated cardiac floor. ACLS certification required. Direct cardiac care requirement may be waived if more than 3 years of cardiac stress testing experience. Proficiency in 12 lead EKG interpretation required. Job Summary Under the direction of the Hyperbaric Supervisor provides direct care to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy patients as prescribed by the (Medical) Director Wound Recovery Center or attending Hyperbaric physician operates and maintains the HBOT chambers and associated systems and equipment and evaluates the care for clients according to age-specific criteria. The RN works within the State Practice Act and follows all Hyperbaric Medicine Wound Recovery Center and Kent Hospital policies and procedures. Duties & Responsibilities Operates maintains and ensures the safety of the hyperbaric facility and all associated systems and equipment prepares the chamber equipment and materials needed for patients undergoing HBOT. Carries out protocols of treatment as prescribed under physician’s direction observes patients and system during course of HBOT documents patient condition and reports unusual occurrences to HBO supervisor and Medical Director (physician on duty.) Maintains operating maintenance and safety logs and other required documentation performs preventive and other required maintenance (except yearly/biannual factory service) on the chamber/system as needed. Is responsible for cleanliness of equipment per policy assists/maintains a neat orderly work area appropriate inventory of supplies. Demonstrates competence in patient and family education including the purpose and procedure of HBOT. Maintains an active role in HBO education programs and orienting patient/family and visitors to unit. Participates in Quality Assurance and attends center meetings. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, interventions, and responses to treatment as well as individualized nursing plans of care. Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families, helping them cope with the challenges of illness and treatment. Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment options, and strategies for maintaining health and preventing illness. Respond to medical emergencies, providing first aid and initiating appropriate interventions. Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times. Utilize and maintain medical equipment (e.g., monitors, IV pumps, ventilators). Participate in quality assessment and improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in patient care. Develop and maintain positive relationships across all areas of responsibility. Visibly demonstrate commitment to customer relations and all basic concepts of continuous quality improvement and preventing error from reaching the patient. Charge Nurse duties as assigned. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education.
