Across both facilities, the nurse demonstrates clinical adaptability, strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, effective communication, and a commitment to compassionate, family-centered care during critical periods of maternal and newborn recovery. This role requires the ability to transition seamlessly between units and locations while ensuring safe, consistent, and high-quality. This position is ideal for nurses with 2 years of recent Level II Labor & Delivery and Postpartum experience. Responsibilities: · Provides direct nursing care to newborns requiring intermediate care, including monitoring and management of mild respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, administration of IV fluids and antibiotics, and management of conditions such as jaundice, feeding difficulties, mild infections, and temperature instability. · Provides evidence-based nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborns, including care following vaginal and cesarean deliveries, routine couplet care, and care for antepartum and gynecologic patients as assigned. · Performs comprehensive assessments, ongoing monitoring, documentation, and evaluation of patient responses to care. · Educates and supports families regarding infant care, feeding, safe sleep practices, maternal recovery, and discharge planning. · Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs), certified nurse midwives (CNMs), OB/GYNs, NICU and nursery staff, lactation consultants, and support staff to coordinate care and ensure safe transitions across units and facilities. · Demonstrates flexibility, clinical competence, and professionalism when transitioning between units and sites to meet staffing and patient care needs. · Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with UNC Health standards and policies.
