Job Description The Clinical Research Services (CRS) of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) integrates multiple clinical sites across San Francisco and Oakland that provide services to clinical research investigators.The CRS provides an array of services, such as Nursing Services, Sample Processing Laboratories, and Body Composition and Exercise Laboratories.The CRS is the largest NIH funded program in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute. The Nurse is responsible for the assessment of patient needs, implementation of research protocols and nursing interventions, and evaluation of outcomes.The Nurse is responsible for facilitating medical research based on individual protocol requirements data collection and/or collection of specimens within the CTSI Clinical Research Center for the implementation of approved protocols.This position requires professional nursing knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with other members of the health care team.The position requires the knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide competent patient care.The Nurse reports to the Assoc. The Nurse performs research procedures skillfully and adheres to protocol instructions. The Nurse administers chemotherapy. Nurse implements new methods of symptom treatment and monitors patients progress. The Nurse explains, teaches, and reinforces patients’/families’ knowledge of study. The Nurse evaluates the care plan’s effectiveness in meeting the changing health needs of the patient.The Nurse demonstrates effective problem solving skills. The Nurse communicates pertinent information in a positive and effective manner. The Nurse coordinates clinical activities to ensure proper patient care. Acquires required supplies for collection of research data, obtaining specimens, and assisting in sample processing. Collaborates with clinical investigators, protocol staff, and CRC staff to insure smooth implementation of protocol requirements. Performs BLS and/or other specialized life support requirement designated by work area. Provides in-service education and research orientation to bedside nursing. Documents all procedures in the patient’s medical record. Successful completion of annual competency testing. Obtains specimens and performs simple laboratory processing procedures conforming to all policies and procedures related to specimen handling and processing. Complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, administrative and clinical practice. Assists patients with issues and complaints utilizing conflict management skills. Identifies and communicates problems to the appropriate supervisor. Shares pertinent information and observations with other health team members. Notifies charge nurse of patient delays and service issues. Acts as an advocate for patients to help facilitate punctuality in seeing patients according to schedule. Communicates delays with front office team directly with patients, as needed 5% Sample Processing Maintains accuracy of specimen collection into proper media, i.e., specific test-required preservative(s) and containers. Instructs participants on specific specimen-collection procedures to acquire saliva and urine. Provides back-up processing support for specimens collected after-hours. Initiates processing, including specimen centrifuging and aliquoting for associate labs according to both laboratory policies/procedures and research protocols. Timely processing, temperature sensitivity, accurate pipetting and storage of specimens are essential. 10% General Performance Maintains and adheres to patient confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines including the distribution of NOPPs (Notice of Privacy Practices). Demonstrates courtesy and overt helpfulness in all interactions. Attends study start-up meetings for new protocols. Participates in team building by actively contributing during meetings and with staff and providers in discussion of all practice activities. Is an active participant in performance improvement projects and customer service initiatives. Rotate to other CRS sites to provide back-up coverage as needed. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Six (6) months of clinical experience RN expereince Baccalaureate degree in Nursing Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population. Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows. Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians. Department Description The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN), founded in 1964, is a regional tertiary center and has the proud distinction of being one of the first neonatal intensive care units in the world. In addition to caring for extremely premature infants, the ICN also cares for infants with congenital anomalies in need of evaluation and surgical interventions. The ICN opened the first Neuro Intensive care unit for newborns in 2008. Today, the ICN continues to enjoy a reputation for being at the forefront of innovation in the fields of neonatology and fetal treatment. Neonatologists, neurologists, radiologists and nurses work to improve neuro developmental outcomes in very premature infants and full-term babies who are at high risk of neurological injury or have clinical evidence of encephalopathy, seizures or stroke. The ICN provides state of the art care for infants with neurological, gastrointestinal, renal and skeletal, cardiac and respiratory diseases. What You'll Own Your patient's full clinical journey — from initial skin assessment and treatment planning through follow-up care and long-term results. You'll partner with Patient Care Coordinators and Location Directors to deliver seamless, individualized care on a busy clinic floor. Day-to-day: performing laser, injectable, and skin rejuvenation treatments; documenting accurately; and staying engaged in a high-volume environment. You'll work with a custom EMR built for LaserAway — fully digital and designed to simplify charting so you stay focused on patients, not paperwork. And as we continuously add the latest FDA-cleared technologies to our treatment menu, you'll always be practicing at the forefront of aesthetic medicine.
