Clinical Nurse Manager

Responsibilities The Clinical Manager of the Oncology Infusion Center has the responsibility, authority and accountability for patient care, administration and practice within the Infusion Center and for the development of the work force who consistently demonstrates competent, efficient clinical practice. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Selects, schedules, assigns, and evaluates staff, adjusting hours and shifts as necessary to meet the needs of the unit and the patients. Coordinates orientation of new staff and assures that training and education needs of staff are met. Coordinates unit activities and the work assignments of staff members. Evaluates activities of department to ensure quality patient care, effective staff relations, and efficiency of service. Directs the nursing care of the Oncology Infusion Center. Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed and care is delivered in accordance with physician instructions, regulations and standards of care. Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit policies, goals, and objectives. Participates in the development and modifications of unit programs and services. Participates in infection control, discharge planning, utilization review, case management, and quality assessment activities and analysis. Develops, interprets and enforces department and institution policies. Participates in the development and monitoring of unit operational budget and productivity standards. Participates in appropriate department and hospital committees. Directs preparation and maintenance of patients' clinical records. Inspects rooms and units for safety, cleanliness and comfort. Keeps informed and notifies staff of special orders/plans concerning patients or unusual cases. Investigates and resolves complaints and personnel issues of staff and/or patients. Collaborates with other departments and throughout hospital to provide needed services and/or care to the patient/family. Responsible for planning capital needs, ordering supplies, instruments, equipment, communicating with vendors and departments for the needs of the Oncology Infusion Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages employees in the Oncology Infusion Center and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Overview The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the supervision of nursing services to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient patient care.
