The Clinical Manager is responsible for monitoring compliance, quality and safe delivery of services by following clinical processes. The Clinical Manager is responsible for any and all practices and duties within the scope of practice as outlined by the state. Provides backup to the Administrator/DON as needed. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure quality and safe delivery of home health services Collaborates with intake, providing daily direction, managing referral volume based on staffing availability Provides oversight for liaison workflow to ensure timeliness of completion as well as identify education needs for field & liaisons, ensuring workflow needs and staffing skill sets are congruent. Ensure Start of Care compliance Focus on Outcome Monitors as assigned Implement quality improvement programs in the field Participates in all liaison/administrative on-call rotation, and patient staffing as needed to manage after hour’s team, staffing needs and patient related issues Manages on call calendar for internal & field staff Manages PTO, call offs & daily/weekly productivity review to ensure proper staffing coverage to meet the needs of the business in the field and internally Completes field visits as needed Participates in managing cost of good working with monitoring supply costs, overtime, staffing, bonuses and visits per episode Collaborates with billing department to address authorization pro bono requests & ensures patient contact regarding authorization exceptions Performs new and ongoing liaison training as defined by the Administrator Manages staffing budget, at the direction of the Administrator to include: overtime & bonus oversight; reporting budget exceptions to Administrator; payroll entry of field staff bonuses; review and approve liaison timecards Provides Administrator/DON with objective data related to internal and field employee performance evaluations Maintains positive working relationships with referral sources including physicians, hospitals, skilled facilities, assisted livings and families Assist with monthly Case Manager, Nurse and Therapy meetings Reviews clinical documentation in accordance with agency protocol and Medicare/Federal guidelines Process complaint workflow reporting staffing trends, neglect, abuse or theft to Administrator for resolution & follow up Completes field clinician check-in reviews timely Maintains active RN or PT license in state of employment Participates in in-service program development Consistently demonstrates core values and maintains a professional appearance as a representative of the company Understands, implements and practices policies and procedures for agency operation May act as back-up Administrator, as needed Arrives at assigned location on scheduled work day. Works according to designated hours and on-call as needed in office and field nursing responsibilities. Current applicable license as an RN or PT. Knowledgeable with nursing/therapy best practices and the scope of practice for a nurse/therapist as outlined by the state for its licensed nursing/therapy personnel. Utilizes computer and phone continually to maintain constant contact with field staff, physicians, referral sources, internal staff and other departments. Knowledge of ASHN billing, authorization, intake, clinical review & workflow processes. Performs assigned duties with use of computer and phone. Completes and submits all required documentation within specified company requirements. Dexterity & vision to complete documentation on computer. Other duties as assigned. MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the day-to-day management of field staff Interviewing, hiring, training and termination of department personnel Provides consistent coaching and provides challenge and opportunity to direct reports Supervises direct reports with consistency and clarity of expectations Completes yearly evaluations in an accurate and timely manner Performs coaching, counseling and discipline as needed Works with direct reports to ensure employee satisfaction and resolution of issues and concerns Timecard management QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of Three (3) years of experience as an RN or PT in an acute care setting Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to problem solve clinical needs Ability to create positive impressions and communicate with a variety of people Exemplary communication skills and customer focus Ability to remain calm, have patience and be accommodating Compassionate and caring while working with patients Ability to resolve conflict using conflict management skills Knowledgeable on nursing best practices Ability to make appropriate nursing judgments Ability to identify a situation and handle it with the best possible solution Detail-oriented and observant. Our Level III NICU in Colorado Springs cares for a large volume of patients with more than 50 licensed beds in a free-standing Children’s Hospital. Our NICU focuses their expertise by specializing in the care of a wide variety of neonatal patients ranging from extremely premature infants, critically ill term newborns, surgical patients, and everything in between. We are a full-service Children’s Hospital with the necessary subspecialties to meet the unique needs of the patients we serve. As the premier Children’s Hospital serving the Southern Colorado region we receive patients from facilities in Colorado Springs, Southern Colorado as well as neighboring states. Many of our patients are born close by at UC Health, our next-door hospital partner. Our unit has a sky bridge to their labor and delivery unit which serves as a wonderful partnership for the parents to come and see their baby while mom is still inpatient. We are primarily a clean NICU, meaning babies that come to us have usually never been home. However, when babies need our help, we are ready to do whatever it takes to provide them the best care. We will take babies who have been home for phototherapy, rule out sepsis, respiratory illnesses, and other needs for hospitalization under certain circumstances. This position will also participate in weekend and holiday on call requirement. This position is eligible for relocation assistance, if relocating from 100 miles or greater. Duties & Responsibilities An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. Manages the implementation and maintenance of unit/department specific policies, procedures, and guidelines while ensuring consistency with evidence-based practice and organizational policies, standards, and procedures. Leads unit/department team members in providing direct patient care by demonstrating expert clinical knowledge and promoting the application of the Professional Practice Model and Professional Standards in daily work. Serves as a charge nurse by preparing schedules and assigning team members to patients; overseeing the admission, discharge, and general flow of patients; and monitoring and ordering medicines and supplies. Works with team members to create individualized plans of care to meet a patient needs. Interprets and explains regulatory standards and hospital policies, procedures, and rules to employees and ensures compliance with applicable quality and safety initiatives and practices. Ensures staffing resources are utilized appropriately and shifts resources to meet both patient and unit needs. Partners with a multidisciplinary team in meeting the clinical needs of patients and families. Rounds with patients, families and team members to promote patient family experience and quality patient care. Resolves operational and patient/family issues, making decisions that are inclusive of multiple perspectives and solves underlying problems. Assists team members in achieving unit outcomes, performance and professional development standards; identifies opportunities for continual improvement. Champions clinical practice and professional growth by working with the CNE/CNS to meet the educational needs of the unit/department and by monitoring and evaluating staff competencies. Develops, coaches, and evaluates team members. Mentors team members in creating/evaluating projects focused on improving clinical practice. Provides advice to Clinical Manager on decisions involving hiring, terminations, promotions, and disciplinary actions as required. Monitors expenditures for unit/department and participates in the development of budget recommendations. Position requires regular and predictable attendance. Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION – Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Master’s degree in Nursing or a directly related health care field is preferred. EXPERIENCE – Three years of clinical experience. Previous Level III or Level IV NICU experience preferred. LICENSURE – Registered Nurse (RN) CERTIFICATION(S) – BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. ANCC recognized certification in clinical specialty. Depending on the unit/department, employees may also be required to have a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Adult Advanced Life Support (ACLS), and/or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
