The SICU admits patients from 20 plus surgical and medical services including GI, liver transplant, ENT, maxillofacial, oncology, ortho, and urology. These patients often present with multi-system failure requiring hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator support, CRRT (dialysis), parenteral nutrition and fluid and electrolyte replacement. In addition the SICU is a major referral center for adult ECMO/ARDS patients. The SICU also receives overflow patients from the Trauma, Neuro, Medicine, Thoracic Surgery, and Cardiac Intensive Care Units.
