Bases all nursing interventions on pathophysiological and psychosocial rationale. Delivers care in a fiscally responsible manner. 7. Establishes a positive relationship with the patient and family. Introduces self to patients and families as the patient's nurse. Provides teaching and counseling for patients/families according to their needs and ability to understand. Documents teaching on the appropriate teaching tool . 8. Reviews/educates the discharged patient and family to ADL's, medications, treatments, and provides appropriate discharge instruction sheet(s). 9. Documents all nursing interventions and the patient's response in the medical record for all assigned patients. 10. Delegates responsibilities to others with an understanding of their roles, knowledge and capabilities. 11. Participates in performance improvement activities as requested , utilizing performance improvement principles to support and improve patient care . 12. Holds self accountable for professional practice and presents self in a calm and professional manner. Keeps current with changing practices and interventions in patient care through lifelong learning. 13. Maintains a collaborative work relationship with peers and colleagues in order to create a positive work environment. 14. Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e., physicians, clinical manager, or charge nurse) and records those observations accurately and concisely. Requisition equipment and supply needs as required. • Initiate investigation of accidents and unusual occurrences and make the necessary written report to the Director of Nurses as established in the facility’s policies and procedures. • Notify the resident’s attending/alternate physician, as well as the resident’s legal guardian/representative, when the resident has a significant change of condition or becomes critically ill or injured, as outlined within facility’s established policies. • Work with the facility’s consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as directed by the RN Supervisor of the Director of Nurses. • Investigate complaints and grievances and make necessary oral/written reports to the RN Supervisor or Director of Nurses. • In cases of death, notify the funeral home and ensure that the body is properly prepared/cleaned for pick-up. • Evaluate emergencies and determine emergency measures to be used, including the use of chemical or mechanical restraints. Assists in preparation of the departmental operating and personnel budgets; manages the budget throughout the year, analyzes and monitors monthly reports and overtime runs for the department to ensure that the department operates within budget guidelines. * Reviews standards and related policies and procedures for compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies; recommends and implements changes as required and ensures changes are communicated to Patient Services staff; monitors and reviews departmental and unit compliance with reporting requirements. * Responds to problems that arise on a daily basis; resolves where possible, referring problems or responses to the appropriate individual as required; reviews and investigates all complaints received by the department with department members to ensure speedy resolution and reply. Works with the Director of Nursing in directing the maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health comfort and safety of patients and staff. * Maintains established department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. *Indicates an essential job function. The practice is a high functioning practice performing 1,200 + cases/year with excellent hospital support and a wide referral network spanning a 120 mile radius. Shift is Monday – Friday Days with rotating weekends/holiday coverage, and can be flexible to meet candidate’s needs. Primary Department, Division, or Unit: UHS Neurosurgery Annual Compensation Range: $143,100 - $167,000 ----- Seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in Neurosurgery or Spine Surgery for this new role open due to department growth. This position provides health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Administers and orders diagnostic test and interprets the test results for deviations from normal. Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance. Preference for previous Neurosurgery or Spine Surgery experience.
