Position Purpose The Clinical Coordinator-RN is a registered nurse who has expertise in fields such as neurology, neurointerventional radiology, interventional radiology, or cardiovascular nursing practice that is responsible for the development, implementation, operations, and evaluation of the clinical programs. The position is responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to providing care to specialty patient populations. This position assumes day-to-day responsibility for process and performance improvement activities as they relate to nursing, registry, and clinic staff. Responsibilities include communication to internal and external stakeholders, oversight of the programmatic quality performance improvement plans across the care continuum, and partnership with patients. Oversees collection and utilization of operational and benchmarking data; recommends targets for improvements. Analyzes clinical practice to identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Facilitates cross-functional performance improvement teams. Research industry best practices and recommends process improvements to leadership. Monitors clinical processes, outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided. Evaluates current related research for applicability within units or programs of care. Education/Outreach Serves as a key patient contact for education and plan of care comprehension Develops patient programmatic education, including patient handbooks and emphasizing self-management. Acts as an internal resource for staff in all departments, including but not limited to mentorship of other healthcare professionals in the care of their specific patient population. Works in conjunction across the system with other departments to ensure they have a strong and effective orientation processes. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient education programs that assure quality and appropriateness of care across settings for their specific patient population. Communicate clinic goals to employees and ensure that they have the tools and means necessary to achieve them. Coordinate nursing operations and activities to ensure efficient and quality service; ensure compliance with regulations and clinic standards of quality patient care and patient confidentiality. Ensure that Infection Control/Exposure Plans are understood and followed by staff. Evaluate patient care needs within scope of licensure. Suggest solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints. Obtain and record vital signs and other appropriate information, such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications and presenting problem. Anticipates the needs of the patient and the practitioner during the exam. Ensure patient privacy and comfort during the exam; instruct patients in the collection of samples and other tests. Administer ordered medications via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular or intradermal routes. Start intravenous lines and administer intravenous fluids with appropriate certification. Under supervision of the practitioner, inform patients of lab results, call in prescriptions to pharmacies and return practitioners’ phone messages. Documents all procedures and interactions in patient’s medical record. Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures to appropriate level of training and established procedures Supervises all aspects of employee management including selection, orientation, training and staffing of the nursing staff; ensures the effective development and implementation of HR policies and procedures. Coordination of nursing activities with practitioners. Prepare clinical staff schedules. Monitor, edit and sign off on staff timecards each pay period. Conduct employee performance appraisals for supervised staff, setting individual goals and follow-up as outlined in policies and procedures. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in ambulatory settings, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager, charge nurse or practice manager.
