Regional Registered Nurse Supplemental Staffing Team

Overview The Supplemental Staffing Team (SST) Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Appalachian Regional Healthcare including those established by the Nurse Practice Act. The primary function of this role, based upon hired tier and float option, is to be available and flexible to float to various departments and/or hospital sites throughout ARH healthcare locations within Kentucky and/or West Virginia. The SST RN is to provide patient care, which could include but not limited to same day staffing assignments, more than one assignment location within a singleshift, travel assignments, seasonal staffing patterns or natural disaster/emergency response. Participates as amember of the Supplemental Staffing Team in cooperation with and under the direction of Director and/or Clinical Nurse Manager or designee. Essential Job Functions: Supplemental Staffing Team RNs are hired with the understanding they must float based on at least one of the options below:• Local: Float expectation within a single site based on competency• Regional: Float expectation within multiple sites within a single region based on competency• Enterprise: Float expectation within multiple sites across one or more regions that are >75 miles from RN'shome address and accepts assignments that range 2-13 weeks based on competency Special Instructions Regional: Float expectation within multiple sites within a single region based on competency. Responsibilities In collaboration with providers, clinical care team members, patients and families (as defined by the patient) the Registered Nurse is responsible for evaluating, planning, directing and administering care to the patient. Implements a plan of care based upon established standards of care/practice, policies, and procedures, incorporating cultural, religious, psychosocial, physical, and age-related issues. Completes all required documentation accurately and within the required timeframe, as well as communicate clinical information with members of the multidisciplinary team. Possesses knowledge of medications and administers them safely and accurately. Appropriately delegates and supervises routine technical functions to non-licensed and licensed personnel. Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction and employee morale and improvement in the profession of nursing. In collaboration with the patient/family the RN evaluates patient outcomes and revises the patient’s plan of care. Negotiates with the patient/family and health care team members to come to an acceptable resolution of conflicts resulting from patient care or organizational issues. Demonstrates an appreciation of the hospital mission by acting as a resource for employees, students, and residents. Licensed Practical Nurse

Overview The LPN is responsible for performing a wide variety of nursing care, patient activities, and accommodative services for the comfort and well-being of patients in accordance with physicians' orders and under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities • Performs basic nursing care and patient procedures as required. • Participates in conferences and serves on committees as requested. • Observes, reports, and documents changes in patient condition, observations made, complaints voiced, and nursing care performed. • Participates in patient and family health education as necessary. • Provides a safe and secure environment for patients. • Prepares for and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. • May administer I.V.F. in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act. • Checks, irrigates, and maintains drainage tubes as needed. • May insert N/G tubes after training (KY & VA). • May administer tube feedings. • Suctions patients according to hospital policy and procedure. • Functions in emergencies and on the code team as designated. • Performs catheterizations and provides catheter care. • Administers oral, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, I.V., P.B., and approved medications. • Administers I.V.P. medications as approved (Virginia only). • Cares for patients receiving oxygen therapy and analyzes oxygen concentration of O2 tents, isolettes, and croupettes. • Administers respiratory treatments (I.P.P.B.). • Applies sterile and unsterile compresses and bandages of all types and styles. • Answers call lights and assists patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living. • Tests urine for sugar, acetone, and pH, weighs patients, and obtains vital signs. • Cares for patients in isolation. • Assists with physical and vaginal examinations and obtaining Pap smears. • Administers post-operative care, including coughing, deep breathing, turning patients, and obtaining vital signs. • Prepares patients for surgery, including completion of pre-operative checklists. • Applies ace bandages, all types of traction, hot water bottles, and ice caps. • Measures and records intake and output. • Collects specimens, including blood, urine, stool, and sputum. • Administers post-mortem care and transportation. • Administers enemas, including retention, cleansing, therapeutic, and colonic irrigation. • Maintains cleanliness, safety, and efficiency in nursing care. • Responds appropriately in emergency situations, providing patient care, initiating CPR, and performing duties designated by the RN or physician. • Assists with the care and security of patient valuables. • Checks narcotics and barbiturates, reports discrepancies, completes incident reports, and submits documentation to appropriate management. • Cares for patients with radium and assists physicians with removal of radium. • Prepares used equipment for re-sterilization. • Cleans and maintains storage of equipment and requests repairs as appropriate. • Follows up with physicians and staff regarding equipment performance. • Complies with hospital policies for obtaining, documenting, and following through on telephone and verbal orders. • Monitors glucose using a glucose monitoring device. • Collects Quality Improvement data as requested. • Uses universal precautions. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Head Nurse Manager

Overview The Head Nurse Manager is accountable for the supervision of nursing services within an assigned unit in order to provide safe, effective and efficient nursing care. Responsibilities Supervises the department in an efficient manner by planning, organizing and controlling all activities of the department. Implement, interpret and enforce work standards and procedures within the unit that are in compliance with hospitals policies, governmental regulations and various regulatory agency requirements. Overview The Nurse Aide is responsible for performing basic nursing procedures in assisting in the care of patients.
