Tests urine for sugar, acetone, and ph., weighs patients, and takes vital signs. Cares for patients in isolation. Assists with physical and vaginal examinations and obtaining pap smears. Administers post-operative regime: cough, deep breathing, turn patients, and takes vital signs. Prepares patients for surgery, including pre-op check lists. Applies ace bandages, all types of traction, hot water bottle and ice cap. Measures and records intake and output. Collects specimens; blood, urine, stool and sputum. Administers post-mortuum care and transportation. Administers enemas: retention, cleansing, therapeutic, colonic, irrigation. Maintains cleanliness, safety and efficiency in nursing. Alert to and able to respond appropriately in an emergency situation, providing patient care, initiating CPR and any other tasks designated by the RN or MD. Assists with the care and security of the patients' valuables. Checks narcotics and barbiturates reports discrepancies, completes incident report appropriately and submits to appropriate management. Cares for patients with radium and assists physician with removal of radium. Prepares used equipment for re-sterilization. Cleans and maintains storage of equipment. Request repairs, follow-up with physician and other staff as appropriate regarding equipment performance. Comply with hospital policies for obtaining, documenting and follow through on telephone and verbal orders. Monitors glucose via glucose monitor machine Collects Quality Improvement data as requested. Uses universal precautions. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing. Must maintain current licensure in state of practice. Must successfully complete the I.V. Therapy Course. Technical skills in special nursing fields preferred. Six (6) months to one (1) year on-the-job training is required to attain proficiency of performance of assigned duties.

Performs all assigned duties in accordance with the Center for Pediatrics and Rehabilitation’s policy and procedures Bath residents according to the Center for Pediatrics and Rehabilitation policy and Procedure. Inspect resident’s skin and promptly report any changes to the NCC. Carries out mouth care, hair care and as necessary trim finger and toe nails. Make two hourly checks on incontinent residents and wash and change as necessary. Encourages self-help measures as appropriate so that each child may reach his/her appropriate level of independence. Check and record urine and bowel movements. Ensure that assigned residents are appropriately prepared for school, clinic, recreation and hospital visits as scheduled and accompany/transport them as assigned. Ensure that bedfast residents are repositioned as directed by NCC but not less than two repositions per resident hourly. Performs restorative and rehabilitative activities as instructed and as directed by Plan of Care. Assists in applying safety restraints to residents when directed; Monitors residents in restraints, release restraints and documents according to policy and procedure Ensures that each resident who can use a call bell has one within reach and remind him/her to use it. Assists co-workers with lifting, positioning and other procedures as necessary. Be aware of facility policy on child abuse and/or neglect and promptly report any instances of abusive or inappropriate behaviors towards any resident to the NCC. Knows and follows The Center policy and procedure with regard to infection control including hand washing and types of isolation. Keep resident care area clean and free of clutter. Report any unsafe conditions immediately to NCC. Properly stores and safeguard residents’ clothing and reports too many or too few clothing and or toys to NCC. Feeds residents or teaches residents to feed themselves as appropriate. Ensure that hands are washed (child and caregivers) and that meal times are pleasant, dignified experiences Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required Successful completion of NYS approved Nurse Assistant Certification Program Active CNA Certification on NYS Nurse Aide Registry required Experience Experience working with children. One year of experience as Nurse’s Aide preferred Employee Requirements: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently. Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds. Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary. Working Conditions: Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area. Will be subject to frequent interruptions. May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
