Incumbents are required to exercise particular care in the observation of aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures in preparing and maintaining surgical equipment and supplies. Supervision is received from the professional, medical and nursing staff through constant observation and evaluation of work in progress for adherence to prescribed techniques and procedures. Responsibilities Performs duties as assigned including but not limited to the following: Assists in the inspection and indicated cleaning of the room prior to the procedure. Assists in collection of necessary equipment and supplies utilizing the surgeon's procedure card. Maintains aseptic technique throughout all phases of work. Assembles instruments and supplies on table and mayo stand. Performs counts with the circulating nurse. Assists in the draping of the operative site. Assists surgeon and scrub nurse; anticipates and supplies the needs of the surgeon with instruments, sutures and sponges throughout the procedure.
