Job Summary:

A circulator nurse is a registered nurse who assists surgeons and other healthcare professionals during surgical procedures. They work outside the operating room’s sterile field by ensuring a clean and sterile environment, prepping for operations, recording surgery proceedings, monitoring surgical staff and tools and managing the delivery of samples and specimens. Circulating nurses are responsible for a wide range of duties and responsibilities. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assisting with patient positioning, prepping the surgical site, and ensuring proper patient monitoring.
  • Preparing the operating room with necessary equipment, supplies, and sterile instruments.
  • Monitoring the surgical team to maintain aseptic technique and identify any breaches in sterilitity.
  • Receiving, labeling, and managing surgical specimens as needed
  • Accurately documenting the surgical procedure, including details like medications administered, blood loss, and any complications. 
  • Proactively identifying and addressing the needs of the surgical team during the procedure.
  • Assisting in managing any unexpected situations or emergencies during surgery.
  • Keeping good records and maintaining patients’ charts.
  • Working with surgeons, medical/surgical nurses and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op.
  • Count surgical supplies before, during, and after the procedure. 
  • Assist the surgical team with repositioning the patient or other tasks. 
  • Coordinate communication between the surgical team and other departments.
  • monitor vital signs, confirm the surgical site, and address any concerns promptly.

The successful candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Florida RN licensure
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications prefered 
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
