Job Description

A Nurse Practitioner is a professional nurse who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert nursing care in the area of specialization. The Neuro Endovascular Surgery (NES) Nurse Practitioner has in-depth knowledge in the neurosciences.Under the direction of the Co-Chief of the Neuro Endovascular Surgery Division, the Nurse Practitioner has responsibilities in clinical practice, education, consultation, research, utilization review and leadership within Neuro Endovascular Surgery Division and the Medical Center.

Parnassus and Mission Bay NES Service (100% FTE)

Under the direction of the Supervising Physician and the Clinic Administrator and guided by the Committee on Interdisciplinary Practice (“CIDP”) Standardized Process and Outcome Protocols and Procedures of the Ambulatory Services, the Nurse Practitioner provides direct care to patients with multiple, often complicated neurovascular problems. The Nurse Practitioner will provide care to the patients of 1 or more attending physicians within the Department of Radiology. The Nurse Practitioner will evaluate and follow patients throughout the continuum of neurovascular care; seeing patients in the Ambulatory Care Clinic and in the hospital.S/he will also provide post-operative evaluation and care through clinic appointments and telephone triage. The Nurse Practitioner shall comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing approved or verified school of nursing with a master’s degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • 1-3 years experience as nurse practitioner in Neurology, Neurovascular, Neurosurgery or Neuro IR.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Case management experience
  • Experience managing clinical research protocols and working with hospital human subjects research committees
  • Knowledge of ethical conduct of Human Subjects Research

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges
  • NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role

Adult Hybrid Inpatient and Outpatient (ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC). See Addendum A below for more detail.

  • California Driver License (if required for position)
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Additional required AHA certifications: ACLS
  • Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None

UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to be credentialed through its Office of Medical Affairs and Governance (OMAG) to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. Credentialing takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.
