Description Medical Assistant II-Multispecialty-Scarsdale, NY-Full Time-Day-Offsite Provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Responsibilities Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes,referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary. Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, point of care testing or others as needed. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms). May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information. May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule. May check and verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary. Mentors less experienced Medical Assistant staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Summary The mission of the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is to support the health and wellness center’s clinical and clerical operations. As directed by the provider and Clinical Operations Manager, the MA assists the provider and performs appropriate tests and procedures. The CMA is responsible for administrative tasks for the health and wellness center and may assist the Patient Advocate in employee/patient engagement and outreach. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Clinical: Interviews patients and measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, BMI calculation, pulse oximeter and records information in the patient’s electronic medical record Performs clinical procedures including, but not limited to: injections, Electrocardiography (EKG), routine U/A, dipstick, capillary blood draw, Cholestech, Glucometer, and other medical tests and treatments under the direction of the provider. Proficient in spirometry venous labs draws, centrifuge Dispense medications as directed by the physician Proficient in the use and maintenance of Automated Eternal Defibrillator (AED) Prepares treatment rooms and patients for examination Cleans and sterilizes instruments as appropriate Clerical: Performs administrative tasks, completes appropriate forms, and manages the front desk/check in of patients Answers phones/phone triage and scheduling appointments Responsible for compliance and regulatory reporting Maintain clinic and patient records and telephone encounters Inventories and orders medical supplies, materials, and medications Follow up with center patients who miss appointments Schedule external appointments/referrals and make follow-up phone calls to patients regarding scheduling Ensure completion of all services ordered by the physician such that all reports, consult notes, and follow ups are in the chart for the physician to review Under the direction of the Patient Advocate, periodically assists with engagement/outreach functions Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required: High school diploma or equivalent Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program OR twelve months of direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting OR current Medical Assistant certification Candidates who do not possess Medical Assistant Certification must obtain Certification within 6 months of employment Active and unrevoked certification such as RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or NCRMA certification is preferred Current BLS certification through American Heart Association valid for at least 90 days after start date Knowledge of Internet software, Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, and Electronic medical records Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds Ability to prioritize needs and plan work accordingly Knowledge of HIPAA confidentiality requirements
