At Houston Methodist, the Senior Medical Assistant Certified (Sr. MA) position is responsible for functioning as an expert and demonstrates highly competent knowledge in the more technical and advances examinations and treatments necessary to communicate appropriately and carry out delegated medical assistant level tasks under the direct supervision of a Physician and/or Registered Nurse for assigned patient populations, for providing high quality support of patient care and services. This position oversees appropriate scope of practice (i.e. Hand Hygiene Validator, EMR super-user). The Sr. MA position assists with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes. This position also performs general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA and government standards, as well as company policies and procedures. The Sr. MA position participates in patient care which is under the direction of a physician and within the scope of a medical assistant. Seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our team in The Cancer Prevention Center. Our center offers a range of services to help you learn how to reduce your cancer risk or to detect cancer early - when it's most treatable. Cancer screening exams are based on age, gender and disease risk. We also offer risk assessment, risk reduction and diagnostic evaluation services. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of Medical Assistant experience. CMA / RMA certification preferred. The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm and may require rotation to all CPC locations. Key Functions Assisting with Nursing and Multidisciplinary Team: Participates in the rooming of patients. Collect patient data and accurately document in the electronic medical record. Report any abnormal findings to the clinical nurse or provider. Assist the providers during procedures, as applicable per center guidelines. Aids with completion of patient forms. Quality and Safe Patient Care: Consistently provide excellent customer service. Ensure patient's safety and confidentiality at all times. Aid in completion of activities of daily living, mobility, transfer and grooming. Ensure that instruments and supplies are available in the exam rooms at all times. Available for patient to assist with provider during examination and procedures. Communicate with the nurse any reported or observed patient care needs. Work Environment: Prepare clinic day as outlined by the center. Maintain a clean, orderly and safe working environment. Cleans and prepares exam rooms between each patient. Ensure that instruments/equipment/machines needed for patient care are available and in good working order. Restock supplies in the work and patient care areas daily. Turn on the computers in the morning and log off at the end of the clinic. Replenish education materials in patient care areas daily. Partners with Clinical Care Team/Effective Communication: Responsibilities include completion of routine or advanced patient care assignments. Identifies critical changes to patient status and reports concerns to appropriate nursing staff and physicians. Works with multidisciplinary team members to identify and address patient care needs.
