Assesses and plans patient/family education and discharge needs. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately. Promotes an environment conducive to professional practice by functioning as a role model and resource person for other patient services team members. Practices competencies in nursing skills based upon current scientific knowledge. SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS: Current Illinois Registered Nurse Licensure required. Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s in nursing preferred. Maintains certification according to requirements of specialty unit. BLS required within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment at CGH. Basic Computer knowledge strongly preferred. Prior knowledge of drawing blood preferred. Thorough knowledge of medical equipment and instruments preferred. Seeking nursing graduates to start in the Winter 2026 Position Offering: Shift: 2 day shifts and 1 night shifts with rotating weekend & holidays Hours: Full Time; 36 hrs/wk; three/12 hour shifts Entity: UNC Medical Center Location: Chapel Hill, NC In order to qualify for the UNC Medical Center New Graduate Residency program, candidates must currently be in their final semester of nursing school or recently graduated from nursing school within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and worked as a RN for less than 6 months. The New Graduate Residency is a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. Additionally, the program provides mentored clinical relationships to support development as a professional nurse. It is required for the applicant to pass the NCLEX exam and be a licensed RN prior to the first day of employment. 4 Neurosciences is comprised of three adult units which serve specific mental health populations. Geropsychiatry is a 10-bed unit serving geriatric patients admitted for the management of multiple medical and mental health issues. Crisis Stabilization is a 15-bed unit with nursing care provided to patients hospitalized for stabilization during acute mental health episodes. Perinatal Psychiatry is a 5-bed unit solely focused on treatment of women with psychiatric disorders during pregnancy or post-partum.
