Job Overview The Cardiovascular Operating Room Nurse provides patient care in a surgical setting in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. Recognizes and applies information and technology of patient and unit outcomes to facilitate communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination. Navigates and documents in the EMR to support patient care. Works within scope of practice and delegates according to Nurse Practice Act. Perform the duties of Circulator and Scrub in the CVOR to include pre-operative assessment and patient care, Intraoperative care, charting, counts, equipment, supplies, specimen collection, and post op hand-off. Perform the duties of Circulator in the Cardiac Cath and Electrophysiology Labs to include pre-operative assessment and patient care, Intraoperative care, charting, counts, equipment, supplies, specimen collection, and post op hand-off. Responsible for the care of patients pre and post procedure/surgery in the CPPU to include coordination of care among multiple disciplines, pre and post procedure/surgical assessments, teaching, medication administration, transplant infusions, sedated procedures such as PICC line insertion and echo as well as monitoring and intervening in post procedure/surgical complications. Serves as the communication liaison to patients, families and members of the operating team Prepares operating room for patient and procedure Delivers patient and family centered care incorporating the nursing process while providing developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence-based care. Actively anticipates changes in patient outcomes/ unit needs in the provision of care. Communicate and advocate patient values, preferences and expressed needs as part of implementation of care plan, evaluation of care and assessment of patient/family learning needs to the interdisciplinary team. Initiates and anticipates individualized care and education for patients/families across the continuum using an interdisciplinary approach Utilizes outcome data at the patient level to make care decisions. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Experience: 2 years nursing experience and 1 year operating room experience. Pediatric CVOR nursing experience strongly preferred. Certification(s): BLS/CPR, ACLS, and PALS from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. CNOR within 6 months of hire. With a small staff to participant ratio, services are brought to the participant and offered in natural settings, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) functions as a primary practitioner who assesses and monitors IMT participants' clinical health and response to treatment. The nursing approach of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation is used to assists individuals in their achievement of mental health, rehabilitation and recovery goals. Develop, or consult and coordinate with team to develop, plans to address participant health needs. Monitor and modify treatment plans as indicated by participant responses and conditions. Use online databases and portals e.g. PSYCKES, Healthix, MAPP, and others to support assessment and treatment planning. Order, interpret and evaluate medical diagnostic tests to identify and assess participant conditions. Provide management and administration of medication in conjunction with the psychiatrist. Provide a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. Utilize motivational interviewing techniques and a trauma informed approach when delivering individual and group based health services. Administer IMs and vaccines, plants and reads PPD's, and performs phlebotomy as per orders Monitor vital signs and side effects of medications and reports findings to team, and within annual health assessments. Collaborate with psychiatrist and other medical personnel to schedule appointments and coordinate care. Make referrals to community physicians and work jointly with hospital and institutional staff. Intervene and advocate on participant's behalf with, for example, collaterals, agencies, facilities and family members; assist with problem solving to help participant access needed supports. Provide consultation to IMT team regarding participant medical issues; serves as a resource to the team on medical concerns. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records including required documentation, progress notes and health related data, in AWARDS. Evaluate and establish system for reporting on nursing intervention and expected outcomes. Attend and participate in supervision, meetings and training sessions as required. Provide 24-hour crisis intervention services on rotating basis. Job Qualifications Commitment to person-centered treatment strategies, upholding participants' rights, and self-determination in service provision. Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse by the New York State Education Department. Minimum two (2) years' experience working as an RN. Minimum two (2) years' experience working with persons with mental health condition in health or social services setting. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to synthesize and summarize information and make judgments regarding care. Eligible for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Computer proficiency in Windows operating systems and programs, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as comfort with learning new electronic systems.
