RN Staff Nurse - Vascular Access

The expectation of this job is to be available and flexible to travel to various sites throughout Legacy Health and provide patient care. Responsibilities Responsible for patient care within an assigned department/unit and participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of the clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse. The RN Staff Nurse assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Legacy Health System including those for patient assessment and transfer. The Vascular Access Nurse provides consultation for providers and nurses for the most appropriate vascular access device based on patient assessment and the treatment plan. Places vascular access devices such as: peripheral intravenous catheters (PIV), Peripheral Inserted Central Catheters (PICC), Midline catheters and Intra-osseous catheters. Accesses and de-accesses implanted ports. Assesses and manages central venous access devices including routine dressing changes, cap changes and intervenes to maintain patency of central venous access devices. Serves as a resource for the health care team in the intravenous access, placement, management, and patient/family education for care and maintenance. Service area is both inpatient and outpatient. Qualifications Education: As required by licensure. BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred. BSN may be required for specific assignments; experienced RNs without a BSN may be hired based on clinical experience with approval of the site CNO. Experience: One-year registered nursing experience or completion of either the Legacy Health RN Residency program or a nursing program that is equivalent in content, curriculum and duration. Additional clinical experience requirements may vary dependent upon the specific department in which the position is utilized. Thorough knowledge of care and skill in placement of peripheral IV catheters; thorough knowledge of care of central IV access devices and PICC competency as determined by Nurse Manager or designee. Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions. Qualifications Associate's Degree Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. The APP works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team and in partnership with supervising/collaborating physician(s) with responsibilities that include history taking, clinical assessment, and physical examination, order entry, interpretation of diagnostic studies, clinical diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care for the given population. Participates in daily team transition huddles to facilitate effective coordinated patient care. Overview The LPN is responsible for performing a wide variety of nursing care, patient activities, and accommodative services for the comfort and well-being of patients in accordance with physicians' orders and under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities Performs basic nursing care and patient procedures as required. Participate in conferences and serves on Committees as requested. Observes, reports, and documents in the patient chart changes in patient's condition, observations made, and complaints voiced and nursing care performed. Participates in patient and family health education as necessary. Provides a safe and secure environment for the patient. Prepares for and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. May administer I.V.F. in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act. Checks, irrigates and maintains drainage tubes as needed. May insert N/G tubes after training. (KY & VA). May administer tube feedings. Suctions patients according to hospital policy and procedure. Functions in emergencies and on the code team as designated. Assists with the care and security of the patients' valuables. Checks narcotics and barbiturates reports discrepancies, completes incident report appropriately and submits to appropriate management. Cares for patients with radium and assists physician with removal of radium. Prepares used equipment for re-sterilization. Cleans and maintains storage of equipment. Request repairs, follow-up with physician and other staff as appropriate regarding equipment performance. Comply with hospital policies for obtaining, documenting and follow through on telephone and verbal orders. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing. Must maintain current licensure in state of practice. Must successfully complete the I.V. Therapy Course.
