Work Location: University of Miami Hospital & Clinics - Periop. Services / Surgery / OR UTower Provides safe transportation of patients from their rooms to various areas of the hospital. Ensures patient safety by verifying the patient identification band, chart and sending slip. Assists patients to and from the stretcher. Assists nursing personnel with patient positioning and patient skin preps. Cleans and prepares surgical suite and disinfects stretchers in-between patients. Supports the supply needs of the department by receiving supplies and restocking all areas. Maintains the cleanliness of the surgical suite and cleans the operating rooms at the end of the day’s schedule. Empties all trash containers, suction canister boxes, and replaces bags and boxes, periodically throughout the day. Maintains attendant’s supply room with needed solutions for cleaning, maintenance of floors, polishing glass, and cleanliness of counters and walls. Maintains inventory of wet vacuum hoses, floor tools, and brushes. Mops the floor between surgical procedures. Cleans patient pantry and dining area and empties trash. Returns equipment to the storage room and keeps the room orderly. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. OVERVIEW As a Clinical Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), you’ll play a vital role on the frontlines of patient care—providing hands-on support that directly impacts comfort, safety, and recovery. Schedule : 32 hours per week Shift : Second Shift ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures. Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner. Documents care provided according to standards. Maintains a clean work and patient environment. Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies. Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs. Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities. Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel Bladder scanning procedure reviewed Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency) Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor Managing and reporting collection devices: Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures Indwelling catheters: care and output measures Nasogastric tubes to suction Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN Competent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN: Indwelling (Foley) catheters Nasogastric tubes Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters Similar devices as appropriate EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Completion of a CNA program. CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE Current CNA certificate in applicable state. Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
