Once a caregiver accepts a permanent or temporary assignment, they must be able to work the complete scheduled shift consistently. Mobility, Transfer and Higher-Assistance Support Some clients may have limited mobility, be at high risk for falls or require significant physical assistance. Depending on the care plan and caregiver training, responsibilities may include: Assisting with walking and balance Supporting wheelchair mobility Assisting with bed mobility and repositioning Helping clients move between the bed, wheelchair, chair, commode or toilet Using an approved gait belt when directed Assisting with sit-to-stand or stand-to-sit transfers Using a mechanical or Hoyer lift only after required training and authorization Following all one-person or two-person transfer requirements Requesting assistance when a transfer cannot be completed safely Caregivers must never attempt an unsafe transfer or use equipment they have not been trained and authorized to operate. UNIT Summary: AJB is our lower acuity area (step-down). Nurses in this area would have mixed acuity competencies. Babies are in 3:1 ratios with some 4:1s that would have a Care partner.
