Registered Nurse - Ophthalmology (FT, day,7am-4pm)

Job Description Under general supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and Administrative Director of Ophthalmology, guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the medical director and physician staff, the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for adult and pediatric patients. The nurse provides excellent clinical care, telephone advice, and patient education to the Ophthalmology patients. The CN II will comply with the Medical Center house and Telephone Standards. Required The CN II is accountable for their own practice and has primary responsibility for utilizing nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe patient care in the outpatient clinical setting. S/he carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required and performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. CN II is recognized as a leader and clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and organization. CN II serves as resource for all clinical staff and initiates and participates in patient and staff education. The Clinical Nurse II is responsible for nursing in the following Ophthalmology subspecialties: Oculoplastics Comprehensive ophthalmology Retina Glaucoma Cornea and Refractive Surgery Oncology Neuro-Ophthalmology Optometry Strabismus Pediatrics The Clinical Nurse II must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients, and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Three years of recent clinical nursing experience Two years’ recent experience in one of the following areas: Ophthalmology Clinic Setting Ambulatory Specialty Clinic Setting Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities . PREFERRED QUALIFICATION Two years of Pediatrics nursing experience Experience working at Academic Medical Center Experience working in an Ophthalmologic setting REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Current healthcare provider CPR certification

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN II provides care to patients via the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment and instrumentation, and other health care team members. Provides data for staffing decisions and demonstrates flexibility in the resolution of staffing issues; demonstrates flexibility when floating to other units upon requests. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities in documenting, tracking and conveying information. Ability to navigate in a windows environment, utilizing a mouse and the ability to learn electronic medical record system application. Perform other related duties as necessary. Formulates a goal-directed plan of care that is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes. Identifies patient/family learning needs and implements appropriate measures. Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care of a designated patient population. Participates regularly in staff development activities for unit and Department of Nursing personnel. Documents patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner. If no qualified candidate, may be willing to train in the specialty areas listed below. Candidates in training are required to obtain appropriate certifications within 6 months of hire or transfer into unit.
