Position Summary The Inpatient Gastroenterology Consult Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an integral member of a busy inpatient gastroenterology consult service caring for children with a wide range of gastrointestinal, nutritional, feeding, and enteral access needs. Working closely with GI faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, nurses, dietitians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, the NP evaluates and manages hospitalized patients across Boston Children’s Hospital. The GI consult service provides exposure to a broad and complex spectrum of pediatric gastroenterology, offering an opportunity to develop clinical expertise alongside experienced colleagues and trainees. The NP participates in daily rounds, develops and implements evidence-based care plans, coordinates diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and supports safe transitions of care. Opportunities also include teaching, quality improvement, clinical program development, and scholarly activity. Key Responsibilities · Manage and follow patients on the GI consult service, including assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, ongoing management, and discharge coordination in collaboration with supervising physicians. · Evaluate hospitalized children with gastrointestinal and nutritional conditions, including feeding difficulties, gastroesophageal reflux, constipation, diarrhea, malnutrition, hepatobiliary disorders, enteral access needs, and evaluation for surgical feeding tube placement. · Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds on the GI consult service. · Collaborate with primary inpatient teams and consultants to coordinate timely, thoughtful, and family-centered GI care. · Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff, trainees, and other healthcare providers. · Contribute to education of residents, fellows, medical students, nurses, patients, and families regarding GI conditions, enteral nutrition, and feeding tube management. · Participate in development and evaluation of departmental standards, policies, and procedures supporting high-quality, cost-effective care. · Contribute, based on interest and experience, to evidence-based practice, research, publications, presentations, and other scholarly or programmatic initiatives within the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. · Work collaboratively and flexibly with the inpatient GI team, adapting to changing patient volumes, clinical priorities, and service needs while maintaining continuity of care. Schedule · 40 hours/wk, 10 hour day shifts from 8am-6:30pm (with flexibility for 7:30am-6:00pm). · Weekend coverage up to every 3 weekends.
