About the Neuro ICU Our Neuro ICU provides specialized, around-the-clock care for patients experiencing complex, life-threatening neurological and neurosurgical conditions. As a regional referral center, the unit cares for patients requiring the highest level of critical care, including: Acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke Traumatic brain injuries Ruptured cerebral aneurysms Brain and spinal cord tumors Spinal cord injuries Status epilepticus and complex seizure disorders Coma and severe neuromuscular conditions The unit utilizes advanced neurological technologies, including: Continuous EEG monitoring Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring Multimodal neuromonitoring Brain oxygenation and temperature monitoring Advanced hemodynamic and critical care technologies Working alongside neurointensivists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, and multidisciplinary care teams, our nurses provide expert care for some of the region's most medically complex patients. The Opportunity The Nursing Director is responsible for the strategic, operational, financial, and clinical leadership of the Neuro ICU. Reporting to senior nursing leadership, this individual will create an environment that promotes exceptional patient outcomes, associate engagement, professional nursing practice, and continuous quality improvement. About this Job: General Summary of Position Responsible for the coordination of patient care across the continuum of Oncology care for all patients. Educates/provides information supports patients and facilitates treatment plans. Functions as a patient advocate guides patients and families throughout cancer care and survivorship experience. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards. Schedule Monday through Friday Days, remote Primary Duties and Responsibilities Performs the intake assessment/triage coordination and navigation of all patients referred to for oncology services. Serves as a liaison for referring physicians seeking information or access to the system. Screens patients for appropriate information and manages the acquisition of pertinent medical records for initial appointments. Responsible for the planning and implementation of the patient evaluation process. Facilitates the evaluation of patients by interfacing with referring physicians and MGUH services including: Oncology, Radiology Medical Oncology Radiation Medicine and other MGUH services as needed. Coordinates the complex management of patients at various stages of their diagnosis treatment and follow-up collaborating with all disciplines involved in the patient's care to assure timely progress toward the best clinical outcome in the most effective manner. About this Job: General Summary of Position Coordinates daily functions of the practice's EP device program by serving as a primary resource for pacemaker and defibrillator programming and tracking. Provides direct patient care and database administration to assure high-quality care and service to patients with implanted EP devices. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Assists in the development and implementation of pre-and postoperative and discharge teaching for patients undergoing implantation of permanent pacemaker/ICD devices EP studies and radiofrequency ablations. Coordinates EP Device Clinic with EP Physicians' Schedules and notifies management of potential scheduling conflicts. Enrolls patients in the appropriate transtelephonic system by gathering and updating information from patient medical records and educating patients on the use of the system to ensure accurate and timely participation in the transtelephonic system. Maintains a regulatory/compliance environment by following organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance to state local and federal standards and regulations. Performs and reports clinical analysis of device interrogations received through the transtelephonic systems by following established protocols to provide optimal clinical treatment to patients. Performs and reports pacemaker and ICD device interrogation and analysis with reprogramming as needed by following established protocols to provide optimal clinical treatment to patients. Maintains expertise as new technology becomes available including the use of new programmers and the programming of new devices. Performs other duties as assigned. Provides continuity of care for EP practice patients between appointments and after hospitalization by providing care to coordinate the effective transmission of patient-related information. Provides direct patient care by following practice policies and procedures to render appropriate clinical support to the electrophysiologist physicians in both the offices and the hospital environments. Provides patient education and follow-up reminders by meeting with patients in person and/or over the telephone to ensure that the transtelephonic system is being used appropriately and in a timely manner. Works in conjunction with device manufacturing representatives to alert physicians and patients of potential device alerts or recalls.
