Develop and implement feeding plans (breastfeeding, pumping, supplementation). Performs initial and on-going assessments of the parent/baby dyad’s lactation goals. Assists with evaluating procedures, developing, and implementing the safe handling of milk fed in the postpartum unit. Provide equitable care to diverse populations, including those with cultural, linguistic, or socioeconomic challenges. Communication & Advocacy: Communicate effectively with healthcare teams, patients, and families. Serve as a resource for healthcare staff across various departments. Education & Policy Development: Deliver evidence-based education to OB services staff. Revise policies to reflect current lactation research and evidence-based practices. Plan and lead breastfeeding support groups for OB patients and members of the Rush community. Quality Improvement: Collect and manage data for Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative redesignation. Monitor and evaluate quality and safety issues related to lactation practices. Research & Professional Development: Stay updated with lactation research and pursue continuing education.
