Behavioral Health Emergency Registered Nurse RN)

Summary: The Behavioral Health Emergency Medicine RN provides specialized care to patients experiencing mental health crises or behavioral health/substance dependence emergencies. Delivers immediate, compassionate care during psychiatric crises or episodes to prevent harm and reduce agitation. Provides immediate nursing interventions, such as crisis de-escalation, medication intervention, and monitoring of safety and mental status changes. Uses therapeutic communication skills and de-escalation techniques to manage agitated or distressed patients. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to ensure appropriate and timely care for patients with behavioral health concerns . Collaborates on the develop ment and implement ation individualized treatment plans , and determination of appropriate interventions , including the potential use of restraints or seclusion when clinically necessary and in compliance with established protocols. Document s patient interactions, assessments, and treatments accurately and in a timely manner in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Maintain s compliance with hospital policies, legal requirements, and accreditation standards related to mental health care and patient confidentiality. Guides and educates patients and their families regarding mental health disorders, treatment options, and community resources. Facilitates communication with families and caregivers to support patient care and discharge planning. Serve s as an advocate for patients' emotional and psychological needs during their emergency care. Provide s empathetic, culturally competent care to diverse patient populations, recognizing the impact of mental health challenges on individuals from various backgrounds. Participate s in ongoing training related to behavioral health crisis management, de-escalation techniques, and other relevant professional development opportunities. About this role The Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse(s), directs and guides patient teaching and activities that commensurate with his/her education and demonstrated competencies. What you bring to the table Education Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Experience Prefer a minimum of one (1) year clinic experience Licenses/Certifications Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment. Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification. What you will do Assist in the assessment and planning of individual treatment programs for patients, consulting with relevant staff members as needed. Implement individualized treatment programs as directed by Health Care Practitioner, administering medications and obtaining diagnostic tests in accordance with orders and protocols. Adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols, including proper safety techniques, procedures and standard precautions. Respond to patient crises as set forth by site policy and procedure, and assist Health Care Practitioner in medical procedures as necessary. Document nursing encounters using SOAP form of charting, attend mandatory staff meetings and training, and communicate information to relevant staff members as necessary.
