Job Description Involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). This position requires work as both a UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Supervisor and Central Patient Placement (CPP) RN, depending on departmental need. Under the direction of the Director of Hospital Operations, the Benioff Children’s Hospital Supervisor seeks to improve patient care delivery through problem solving and crisis intervention, including disaster management on a broad level. The Hospital Supervisor is recognized as an administrative leader and clinical resource and is accountable for the optimal, safe, effective and timely bed placement of all patients at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals. They utilize nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to assist in the delivery of safe, therapeutic care. While functioning as a CPP RN, they are responsible for effective and timely bed placement for all patients transferring to and located at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Reviews and monitors work schedules assignments and patient classification daily to assess the appropriate number and skill level of personnel required to meet patient needs and develops appropriate staffing plans. Develops and implements policies and procedures and provides resources for maintaining patient safety and compliance with state/governmental regulations pertaining to nursing services and to the hospital. Assures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements. Maintains survey readiness at all times. Participates in and coordinates survey preparation. Develops, implements, and monitors corrective action plans as needed. Responsible for cost controls to insure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from approved departmental budgets. Assures fiscal resource allocation to support current and potential nursing objectives and initiatives to optimize the provision of quality, cost effective care. Responds appropriately to budget variances, including determining justifications and/or developing corrective measures. Participates with hospital leaders, governing board, medical staff and clinical staff in developing the hospital’s mission, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans and policies. Develops, implements, and improves the care delivery model by assessing quality and efficiency and leading appropriate change that meets or exceeds customer expectations. Serves as an active member of the senior leadership team of the hospital interacting with the medical executive staff, governing board and other groups as appropriate. Establishes credibility with patients, physicians, staff, and colleagues through the continuation of excellent patient care and the enhancement of clinical competencies across the organization as appropriate. Acts as an advocate for patients and families. Networks with state, regional and national peers and colleagues to share ideas and conduct mutual problem solving. Seeks experiences to advance one’s skills and knowledge base through such activities as education, certification, and participation in professional organizations. Duties of Hospice Registered Nurse Include: Completes an initial, comprehensive and ongoing comprehensive assessment of patient and family to determine hospice needs. Provides a complete physical assessment and history of current and previous illness. Conducts home visits and assesses/evaluates patient's status. Initiates the plan of care and makes necessary revisions as patient status and needs change. Develops a care plan that establishes goals, based on nursing diagnosis and incorporates palliative nursing actions. Includes the patient and the family in the planning process. Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician. Attends and participates in Interdisciplinary Group Meetings. Completes, maintains and submits accurate and relevant clinical notes regarding patient's condition and care given. Supervises ancillary personnel and delegates responsibilities when required. Qualifications: Graduate of accredited school of nursing Current RN license in California Current CPR Certificate Registered nurses shall have a minimum of (a) one year of experience as a professional nurse within the last three years OR (b) have a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing and current RN license. Minimum of two years experience, at least one of which is in the area of public, home care, or hospice nursing. Must have a valid CA driver license and an automobile that is insured in accordance with the requirements of state of California and is in good working order.
