Overview Department: PACU/Recovery Shift: Part Time; 8 Hour Shifts; Call Required Facility: Saint Joseph Medical Center Location: Joliet, IL Responsibilities The PACU RN is accountable directly to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all patients within the PACU scope of services. The Registered Nurse also coordinates the post-operative care of the patient with the surgeon and anesthesiologist, directs and guides other personnel while maintaining standards of care in the PACU. He/She communicates with the physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and abnormal results and symptomatology. Works with other departments and co-workers to provide quality patient care across the continuum, efficient patient flow and unit maintenance and organization. Responsible for adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures. Responsible for participation in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services. Acts as a resource for other personnel as appropriate. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. Current and valid state RN License. 2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. 3. ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. 4. PALS (AHA) certificate preferred. 5. Previous Critical Care or PACU experience or minimum of one year on the job training. 6. Critical Care RN (CCRN) preferred. 7. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Participates with other team members in planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and other patient activities. Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. Observes and reports patients' vital signs, symptoms and general condition to the appropriate individual(s). Records on patient charts observation of patient’s responses to nursing care rendered. Maintains environmental conditions conducive to the comfort and safety of patients. Assists with unit management and/or assumes charge of the unit as assigned. Position Summary Administrative Nurse I is responsible for directing patient care, related unit activities and personnel on an assigned shift utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework in order to ensure quality patient care and workflow. The ANI identifies work priorities, determines and coordinates daily assignments and staff scheduling. The Administrative Nurse I is responsible for directing the nursing service of an assigned unit, with responsibility for implementation and modification of patient care plans. They work under general supervision from a designated supervisor(s) to accomplish: Duties & Responsibilities Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on on-going assessment of the patient and input from the patient’s family. Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession. Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience to provide “quality” patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other governing/accrediting health care bodies. Takes responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates strategies to meet such needs. Identifies recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems and participates in problem solving and resolution. In collaboration with Patient Care Manager/Director/CNCII assists with unit-based quality/research initiatives and provides feedback and education to staff. Maintains overall knowledge of all patients’ status in order to assist nursing and medical team members and directs workflow to facilitate timely patient admission and discharge. Assumes role of Charge Nurse as assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools. Acts as a resource for unit personnel and aids in resolving questions related to policy, standards and procedures. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, conflict management and customer service skills in serving as a role model and problem solver for the organization and unit. Recognizes and responds to patient care issues providing direction, feedback and follow-up to staff, manager and other healthcare team members. Procures necessary clinical supplies and equipment. Follows up on repairs/maintenance of equipment as needed. Contributes feedback to performance evaluation of unit personnel. Other duties as assigned. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
