Position: Registered Nurse Fertility-Full Time Location: Oradell, NJ; occasional in Livingston, NJ https://fertilitynjny.com/ Hours: Mon/Wed/Fri 6am to 4pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays 8am to 1pm (We need flexibility to start earlier than 8am on Tuesday and Thursday should a procedure time start earlier than anticipated) The RN Generalist-Fertility is responsible for the coordination of patient care and is an important participant in policy and procedure implementations as they relate to medical services for nursing staff, both in person and via telephone. Duties include chaperoning patient care during early morning monitoring hours, patient education, processing medications, assisting with pre-op and post-op, patient instructions. Essential Functions: Chaperoning during early morning monitoring Welcoming new patients to the center and explaining logistics of their care and how the office works Patient education and injection training Patient phone calls/reviewing instructions Cover the PACU pre-op and post-op care as well as cross cover cases in the OR (egg retrievals, embryo transfers, hysteroscopies and D&Cs) Assist with prior approvals for meds as needed Advocate for patients and function as middle support between providers and patients Follows established triage protocols and guidelines to evaluate and assess patient healthcare needs based on signs and symptoms. Accurately documents signs/vitals, symptoms, and complaints, nursing assessment, provided advice, and patient response into the EMR. Pulls labs/imaging results and adds to the EMR and consults with physicians on all results of testing. Obtains appropriate input and direction from Axia provider, as needed, to determine the best clinical course of action and recommendations for specific patient care. Educates patients and families about prescribed follow ups, medications, therapies, and teaches self-injection techniques as needed. Follows policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure consistency and departmental effectiveness as well as to improve healthcare outcomes of patients. Assist, as needed, with phone triage. Assists with medication refill requests. Performs phlebotomy. Qualities & Skills: Computer skills and knowledge of EMR. Comfortability performing phlebotomy. Education & Experience: Completion of an accredited nursing program required. Active New Jersey RN license required. Minimum of 2 year experience working as an RN in a fertility setting , required. Phlebotomy experience required. CPR Certification. Ability to be flexible with schedule and to work at satellite locations, if applicable, as scheduled. Previous experience with eClinicalWorks (EMR) beneficial. Knowledge of lab order sets beneficial. Knowledge of CPT coding beneficial. Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy C ommunicating the patient’s current status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care. A dministering medications safely and correctly using the 8 rights of medication administration. P racticing and monitoring aseptic technique . Implement ing the plan of care including the following interventions: M anaging patient recovery from anesthesia – Moderate sedation and Monitored anesthesia care . Assess ing patient status at intervals in accordance with facility policies and procedures . P roviding nursing care and appropriate monitoring in accordance with policies and procedures . P erforming interventions to maintain the patient’s tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels. Ensuring scopes are prepared for use in accordance with policies and procedures and manufacturer’s instructions for use . Maintain ing endoscopy instruments and accessories in working order. Troubleshooting and recognizing malfunctions . P erforming interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels. P erforming interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period. P erforming interventions to protect the patient from infection. A ssessing the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person. P roviding education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, and expected responses to the procedure. I nvolving the patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process. P rotecting the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy. P roviding age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice . Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes. Transfer care as applicable. Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care. Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions . Document episode of care accurately, timely, completely, and legibly. Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the team and other stakeholders. Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care. Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects. Participate in the performance appraisal process. Qualifications Graduate of an a ccredited s chool of n ursing . O ne year of GI, OR and /or medical / surgical nursing experience preferred . Current state nursing licensure to practice in good standings . Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification. Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification. Successful completion of Pediatric Advance Life support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope of services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
