How you make a difference The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides a full range of psychiatric services to incarcerated patients in accordance with state licensure, collaborative practice requirements, and established policies and procedures. This role delivers direct psychiatric care, clinical consultation, and follow-up services to support patient treatment and continuity of care. Overview The Observation Unit is specialized and designed for efficient, ongoing medical treatment, assessment, and reassessment of patients before the appropriate decision can be made to either discharge or admit. You will care for a wide variety of patients with chest pain, A-fib, cellulitis, syncope, asthma, and congestive heart failure, trauma, musculoskeletal pain, stroke and TIA, among other diagnosis. This is a fast paced service. Patients have a short length of stay and the unit admits and discharges patients 24/7. Ensure that bedfast residents are repositioned as directed by NCC but not less than two repositions per resident hourly. Performs restorative and rehabilitative activities as instructed and as directed by Plan of Care. Assists in applying safety restraints to residents when directed; Monitors residents in restraints, release restraints and documents according to policy and procedure Ensures that each resident who can use a call bell has one within reach and remind him/her to use it. Assists co-workers with lifting, positioning and other procedures as necessary. Be aware of facility policy on child abuse and/or neglect and promptly report any instances of abusive or inappropriate behaviors towards any resident to the NCC. Knows and follows The Center policy and procedure with regard to infection control including hand washing and types of isolation. Keep resident care area clean and free of clutter. Report any unsafe conditions immediately to NCC. Properly stores and safeguard residents’ clothing and reports too many or too few clothing and or toys to NCC. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to support the Nurse Manager to ensure standards of professional practice are developed and maintained to achieve excellence and continuity in resident care. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be responsible for working in a collaborative manner with the Nurse Manager to direct and organize the nursing care for their assigned neighborhoods. The Assistant Nurse Manager will support the leadership, direction, and supervision of nursing staff, including RNs/LPNs, CNAs and Companions. This includes working in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and the neighborhood staff to balance schedules and maintain staffing levels that are consistent with resident needs, including needs as defined by their Plan of Care, activity and daily schedules, outside and in-house clinic visits, and school programs. The Assistant Nurse Manager will also review and/or modify staff assignments as necessary to ensure quality resident care. In addition, the Assistant Nurse Manager will participate in the hiring, interviewing and onboarding process, as well as periodic evaluation of staff that are assigned to their floor. Evaluations include annual performance reviews as well as interim coaching, counseling and progressive disciplines that may be required. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be responsible for working an on-site schedule of at least 4 days per week a that includes providing evening supervisory coverage and reporting off daily concerns and significant changes in resident condition to the night supervisors. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be included in a Nursing Leadership weekend rotation to ensure continuity of systems and protocols are maintained through the entire week. The Assistant Nurse Manager will demonstrate a commitment to the continuum of care for our residents, through participating in and promoting nursing practice while in the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center and through follow up with collaborating hospitals in the case of transfers for escalations in care.
