Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following: Must be 18 years of age or older; Minimum typing experience; High school graduate or equivalent; Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a hospital or physician’s office preferred; Ability to hear pages, bells, and phone system; Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time (possibly 4 to 7 hours at a time); Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; Ability to attend scheduled CPR classes and code drills; Ability to prioritize and multitask; Willingness to work at any center due to a staffing or center emergency or reduction of work. Job Description Inova Schar Cancer Institute’s Fairfax location is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the community health team in our Saville Center for Cancer Screening and Prevention. This role will be Full-Time day shift from Monday – Friday, with an occasional Saturday shift to join the Mobile Bus team onsite. Our clinic is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. About this Job: General Summary of Position The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture medication and vaccine administration measurement and documentation of vital signs and assisting providers with patient exams and telephone and clerical support. May perform phlebotomy. Utilizes the EMR to propose patient medication refills for provider approval. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Contacts insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization. Floats to other sites/locations within the system as appropriate and performs all duties at multiple sites. Attends scheduled meetings including but not limited to regular staff meetings and training classes for safety infection control OSHA CLIA BLS and others as required. Performs phlebotomy, prepares specimens for transport to labs, performs simple laboratory procedures, takes vital signs, prepares patients for procedures, and assists with patient flow. Provides general clinical support to physicians and other staff, Answers phones, makes appointments, collects co-pays and payment, assists with billing, and adds information to the electronic medical record. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Graduation from a medical assisting degree/program is preferred. Six months of healthcare experience is required. Experience: One year of healthcare/medical - primary care/office experience is preferred. One year of medical terminology experience is required. Knowledge of the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard is required. Experience in clinical pharmacology is required. Certification/Licensure: Medical Assistant Certification or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is preferred. BLS certification is required.
