About the Unit 8 South Oncology is a 44 bed, adult inpatient unit driven by the complex clinical and psychosocial needs of the Oncology patient population. Nurses on this unit care for patients experiencing various stages and complications from hematology/oncology diagnosis. Patients may range from the newly diagnosed to those seeking end of life care. Our unit provides the opportunity to develop critical thinking and assessment skills while working with high acuity patients, managing the latest chemotherapy and biotherapy regimes, blood product administrations, pain management, and central line care . In addition to the technical aspects of the position, 8 South provides the unique opportunity to develop and maintain strong relationships with patients and their families throughout the course of their treatment. Job Summary This position is a 6-month internship program which prepares the new Graduate Nurse for an RN position in the Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU). Orientation includes a combination of classroom and precepted clinical experience. A two-year commitment with a minimum of 36 hrs/wk to PCTU is required after the completion of the 6-month internship program. Responsibilities* The Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit (PCTU) is a 20 bed tertiary care center receiving patients from state, regional, national and international referrals. PCTU specializes in the medical and surgical care of infants, children, adolescents and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Our goal is the provision of exemplary nursing care embracing a philosophy of family centered care empowering families to participate in the decision making and care of their children. The Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit nurse cares for patients in a technology intensive environment including ECMO, CRRT and VAD's. They are required to perform complex physiologic patient assessments in a high intensity environment for high acuity patients with rapidly changing status. Our patients undergo the most progressive surgical and catheterization interventions. Our nursing staff practice in close partnership with the cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and fellows providing individual support and education to families and patients throughout their intensive care unit admission. SUMMARY: Under the management of the PACE SEMI’s Community Living Manager and the coordination of the Lead CLA, the Community Living Associate (CLA) provides supportive services to the participants (residents); including but not limited to the community setting, during transport and on appointments, or in the day health center while under the supervision of the manager, registered nurse, or lead CLA. The CLA’s responsibilities for each participant are specified in the CLA Care Plan. Responsibilities* 5D Surgical Intensive Care Unit: The SICU is a 20-bed adult intensive care unit caring for patients who have had major operations or those experiencing complications requiring extensive physiological monitoring. Typically, this encompasses those patients with peripheral vascular diseases, cancer, hepatic, pancreatic or renal failure, cardiac and pulmonary disease. Often these patients present with multi-system failure requiring swan ganz monitoring, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition and fluid and electrolyte corrections. In addition, SICU receives adult liver transplants and is a major referral center for adult ECMO/Respiratory failure patients. This ICU also may receive overflow from the Trauma, Neuro, Medicine and Cardiac Intensive Care Units. SICU charge nurses participate as adult Rapid Response Providers throughout the University Hospital. SICU offers 12 hour night shifts, comprehensive orientation, career development and the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population. ACLS certification is required or must be completed within six (6) months of hire date.
