Supports and participates in quality improvement activities. Responsibilities Include Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly sterilized and available. Scrub and assist during surgical procedures, maintaining strict aseptic techniques at all times. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures. Maintain an accurate count of sponges, needles, instruments, and other supplies throughout the procedure. Ensure proper care, handling, and sterilization of instruments and equipment before, during, and after surgery. Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping under the direction of the surgical team. Monitor and maintain a sterile field, taking immediate corrective action when breaks in aseptic technique occur. Dispose of sharps and other biohazard materials according to safety and infection control protocols. Support inventory control by restocking supplies and reporting shortages or equipment malfunctions. Participate in quality improvement activities, staff meetings, and continuing education to support departmental goals. Uphold the center’s philosophy, objectives, and compliance with all regulatory and safety standards. Manage pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with the faculty supervising physician and Breast Surgical Fellows. An in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of both cancer as well as the surgical process and wound healing is necessary. Provide patient education. Patient education requires good interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of surgical oncology. Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team to include but not limited to Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APP) from other hospital services, Nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Physical Therapists, Pharmacists, Respiratory Therapists and other Allied Health Support team members involved in the patient's care. Depending on the position, the APP may participate in surgery as first or second assist with the faculty. Is responsible for the use and functioning ability of the Axiom Artis Hemodynamic system. Is knowledgeable of all procedures being performed in the cath lab to include but not limited to the equipment needed for each stated procedure. Is able to be multi task and function as a table operator,scrub person, circulator and or monitor tech. Is able to care for pre and post Cath Lab patients Is competent in each of the previous roles mentioned and the competencies are evaluated annually and documented on competency skill checklists. Initiates and sets-up equipment for each stated procedure. Maintains sterility of equipment during procedures. Is knowledgeable of sterile technique for all stated procedures. Is proficient for in veni-puncture skills for the administration of IV conscious sedation, volume and emergency medication during any given procedure. Knowledgeable in the area of monitoring during induction of the conscious sedation medication. Continues to monitor pre-intra- and post procedure until patient is fully alert and all VS and Aldrete score return to patients baseline. Maintains a balance of supplies for utilization during procedures while being cost conscious. Is a customer service representative and meets or exceeds all of tenets customer service skills.
