The Registered Nurse utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey. The Registered Nurse accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures. Provides and documents patient care under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager. Patient Care : Acts with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care. Collaborates with healthcare team to educate patient and their support system. Analyzes, modifies, and implements strategies to progress the patient through their plan of care. Ensures completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies. Prioritizes job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels. Communication: Consistently utilizes appropriate communication tools when communicating within the interdisciplinary team and when handing off patient care. Communicates individualized plan of care to the patient and his/her chosen support system. Accepts responsibility for actions and responds positively upon feedback from others. Medical Knowledge: Demonstrates medical skills to provide required patient care. Operates various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, bedside commodes, etc. Provides routine nursing care such as starting IVs, performing dressing changes, etc. for multiple patients in a timely manner. Assists in critical situations including administering CPR. Administers and evaluates medication therapies, performs patient transfers, and transports patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. 4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Experience: 1 year of relevant experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: Current RN licensure in applicable state required. CPI certification within three months of hire required for Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, and Central Staffing and Scheduling Office (CSSO). The most common medical diagnosis are gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, placenta previa/abruption, chorioamnionitis, newborn jaundice, newborn hypoglycemia, and preterm birth. The usual nurse to patient ratio is 2:1 for the operating room, 1:1-2 for LDR, 1:2-4 for MB, HR-AP, PP, and Triage. The Women’s Place has achieved both a Baby Friendly Designation as well as an Honor Roll Status from the Immunization Action Coalition. Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization. The Charge Nurse position is an experienced professional who demonstrates clinical, leadership, and interpersonal skill proficiency. The Charge Nurse facilitates and supports the clinical and operational needs of individual inpatient care areas in partnership with management. Staffing/Throughput/Access Leads day to day operations supporting safe throughput and access to care Ensures staffing according to patient needs and collaborates with leaders and staffing resource office (inpatient) using established staffing guidelines. Accurately documents within labor management software to ensure fiscal stewardship. Team member support Serves as a resource for team members and facilitates adherence to policies and clinical practice guiding resources. Ensures access to appropriate levels of care, and facilitates clinical/operational escalation as needed. Facilitates a calm and productive working environment Supports team members in non patient care activities such as professional development activities, participation in practice environment problem solving, breaks etc. Patient Experience Supports patient experience through support of team member identified needs, patient rounding (inpatient), service recovery and problem solving. Coordinates support services as needed to address patient needs. Engages with the team, patients and visitors to optimize the patient experience. Promotes closed loop communication and collaboration between team members, clinical disciplines and ancillary departments. Environment of Care Manages care environment to ensure regulatory and safety standards are met. Facilitates team huddles and use of visual management boards as a mechanism to promote communication. Supports setting specific work to achieve local and organizational quality goals and use of standard work. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire. Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher who has been employed on the unit for 6 months or has had previous Charge Nurse experience from another unit/organization. Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The starting base rate for this role is $48.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
