Baylor College of Medicine and Department Summary: Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital are currently seeking a Physician Assistant/Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. This position offers unique experience in our community pediatric intensive care unit, for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric intensive care. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants), committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. Currently, the critical care intensive care units in the community have capacity for 14 patients. The NP/PA Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, advanced practice providers, and occasionally pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU. The woodlands PICU opened in April 2017 and provides assisted ventilation or other advanced support, such as oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide administration or cardiovascular pressor support. The community ICU also provides care for children who require long-term technology support, those with residual PICU morbidities requiring transition to home, and the management of children who require more intensive medical support. Location: The primary clinical site is at Texas Children's Woodlands Campus, an extension of the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, and an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. Role responsibilities include but are not limited to: Day-to-day care of children with acute and chronic illness requiring critical care. Active role in education of trainees when present. Participation in on-call schedule for the pediatric intensive care unit. Liaison and collaboration with stakeholders and consults throughout the community hospital. Procedures as needed to diagnose and treat critically ill children Responding for the Rapid Response Team Summary Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care. Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management. Perform other job related duties as assigned. Practice at the peak of your license inside a facility reinforced by elite state and national clinical designations, including an official Texas DSHS Trauma Level III Center designation, a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center, an accredited Chest Pain Center, and an accredited Bariatric Center of Excellence. Operating across our state-of-the-art floors—including our brand-new, 31-bed Medical-Surgical Unit inside the 100M North Patient Tower—you will administer an advanced level of multi-system care. To support this progressive service line, our department delivers specialized, high-acuity interventions for diverse patient populations, spanning complex gastrointestinal, orthopedic, neurological, pulmonary, and acute cardiac conditions. Job Summary and Qualifications As an Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Collaborating with medical providers and the care team, you will provide personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care, following established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." What You Will Do In Your Role: You will be responsible for coordinating the nursing care of assigned patients in the Unit in order to provide quality patient care. You will be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the appropriate age populations. You will provide professional nursing care exercising independent judgment in utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate. You will provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. What qualifications you will need: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an Associates or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date).
