The General Internal Medicine unit is a 16-bed one-pod intermediate care medical oncology unit providing care to adult and geriatric patients ranging in age from 18 -95. Patients treated on P4A include those with solid tumor cancers, such as colorectal, gastrointestinal, and lung cancer who are on a spectrum of cancer care from pre-diagnosis to end of life. Patients are provided treatment for side effects and complications of their cancer care, as well as supportive care. Patients are typically admitted to the unit to manage effects of cancer treatment agents including infection, significant GI complications, cardiac complications, renal failure, hypotension, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. Summary The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic located in McAllen, TX is recruiting a full-time Instructor- Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA). The clinic was created in 2001 through a joint effort of the Vannie Cook Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine, and Texas Children's Hospital to provide local pediatric Hematology /Oncology care to the under-served children of the Rio Grande Valley. The clinic is an extension of the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center and is the region's first and only pediatric cancer and hematology treatment facility. GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Identifies and implements innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes to improve department operations or other department-specific measures by leading unit projects and/or other department/system directed shared governance activities. Supports change initiatives, maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusts effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures. Proactively evaluates processes; recommends and implements action plan(s) for change; follows through to ensure effective, sustainable change. Participates in the development and implementation of new procedures and the review and revision of existing procedures. Identifies opportunities and takes action to build strategic relationships between one’s area and other areas, teams, departments, and units to achieve business goals. Seeks opportunities to identify developmental needs of self and staff and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the individual development plan (IDP) on an ongoing basis. Conducts conversations with staff on their development and IDP. On Call* Yes TRAVEL** **Travel specifications may vary by department** May require travel within the Houston Metropolitan area Yes May require travel outside Houston Metropolitan area No QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing EXPERIENCE Three years’ experience in nursing, one year in a progressive leadership role in healthcare; for HM internal, two years’ experience in nursing which includes HM performance that demonstrates leadership abilities, i.e. charge nurse responsibilities LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Required RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure - Texas Board of Nursing_PSV Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency) and BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association and Magnet - ANCC Recognized Leadership Certification (ANCC) within 1 year
