The Department of General Internal Medicine (GIM), Section of Consultative Medicine, provides comprehensive inpatient and consultative care for patients across the care continuum while supporting the management of chronic and acute medical conditions through a multidisciplinary approach. The Advanced Practice Provider plays an important role in delivering high-quality care and supporting the inpatient consult service. The Advanced Practice Provider works closely with faculty physicians to manage complex medical needs, coordinate care, and support patients throughout hospitalization and treatment. Summary This Part-time (.5 FTE) Research Nurse II in the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) / Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), is responsible for assisting faculty in the Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology Division with the conduction of Diabetes research studies. The incumbent will conduct participant diabetes education and training as required for research studies and administer medication. Will assist with other research study activities, including coordination of visits, participant enrollment, data collection, documentation, and safety of research participants. Lastly will assist with regulatory tasks and preparation of study data reports and related presentations and manuscripts. The position may include travel to other TCH sites (e.g., West Campus, etc.) to conduct research related activities. This position is located in the Texas Medical Center. Job Duties Diabetes Education and clinical duties (80%): Provides formal diabetes education to study participants. Trains participants on the use of diabetes devices. Places diabetes devices (e.g., insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors) on the participant's body). Monitors, tracks, and adjusts insulin levels based on protocol. Collects and manages survey data, downloading data from diabetes management devices, and completes electronic medical record reviews. Division: Pediatrics (80001016) Department: Pediatrics - Critical Care (90002443) Employment Duration: Full-time Summary Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital are currently seeking a Physician Assistant/Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. This position offers unique experience in our community pediatric intensive care unit, for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric intensive care. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants), committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. Currently, the critical care intensive care units in the community have capacity for 14 patients. The NP/PA Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, advanced practice providers, and occasionally pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU. The woodlands PICU opened in April 2017 and provides assisted ventilation or other advanced support, such as oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide administration or cardiovascular pressor support. The community ICU also provides care for children who require long-term technology support, those with residual PICU morbidities requiring transition to home, and the management of children who require more intensive medical support. Role responsibilities include but are not limited to: Day-to-day care of children with acute and chronic illness requiring critical care. Active role in education of trainees when present. Participation in on-call schedule for the pediatric intensive care unit. Liaison and collaboration with stakeholders and consultants throughout the community hospital. Procedures as needed to diagnose and treat critically ill children Responder for the Rapid Response Team Location: The primary clinical site is at Texas Children's Woodlands Campus, an extension of the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, and an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. Job Purpose Provides advanced patient care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care. Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management. Perform other job related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Nurse Practitioner: Master's degree in in Nursing. Physician Assistant: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation. Certification/Licenses/Registration: Nurse Practitioner: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Physician Assistant: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department.
