Job Description The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This is a 36hrs/wk, rotating shift position. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided. Special equipment includes radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators. Requirements Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Experienced pediatric intensive care nurse of at least 2 years preferred. Current Delaware or Multistate Compact License Must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association. PALS and ACLS preferred. Description Job Responsibilities: Provide clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations Greet and register patients as they arrive Obtain medical history, patient vital signs, and intake Prepare patients for X-rays Perform and document routine labs, such as throat and urine cultures (venipuncture experience preferred) Irrigate and assist with wounds Assist in performing quality control testing in the lab Be an integral part of the patient care team and assist with patient care within the scope of practice Keep exam rooms and front reception stocked with adequate supplies Maintain order and cleanliness of the waiting room area Practice standard safety practices and precautions Help patients in distress by responding to emergencies and notifying medical team (nurse, urgent care tech, and physician) Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes to management team Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and challenging requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments Assistant patients with complaints and taking an active role in service recovery when needed Perform other duties as needed including apply splints and assisting the nurse and/or provider in other medical procedures Provide exceptional customer services Qualifications High school diploma or GED Prior experience and/or education as a Medical Assistant Knowledge or EKG placement and processing in children Ability to obtain laboratory tests via nasal swab, and venipuncture Demonstrate a professional and friendly demeanor Strong communications and organizational skills Prior pediatric experience Capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment Comfortable with computers, Microsoft Office Suite Willing to learn medical software Experience with medical records preferred Compensation: $18 - $23/hour The salary/rate range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary/rate for this role.
