Job Summary: A Vascular Access Nurse provides access to a patient’s circulatory system through the insertion of a Vascular Access Device (VAD). A VAD can range from IVs, Peripheral IVs (PIVs), and Midlines, contained in the arms, all the way to Central Venous Catheters (CVCs), including Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs). Required Experience: Ideal candidates have experience with vascular line placement as well as care and maintenance. Follows the national Standards of Practice set by the Infusion Nurses Society. Set up and perform vascular access procedures as ordered in accordance with skill-set. Appropriately trained and credentialed clinicians may set up and perform basic (PICC, Midline, peripheral IV) insertion. Understand and use all required infection prevention measures, including hand washing, PPE, and maximal sterile field. Use ultrasound guidance when appropriate for VAD access. Understand and perform complete documentation and full report to the licensed personnel caring for the patient post-insertion. Ensure compliance with all facility policies and procedures regarding clinical practice and infection control. Troubleshoots/declots obstructed central line catheters. Monitors PICC/Midline and educates staff on prevention of line infection and routine care. Submits surveillance data for Quality and Infection Control. Provides infusion consultation services to enhance the intravenous skills of the nursing staff through bedside teaching, central line troubleshooting, and consultation on any infusion therapy questions. The RN would be on call from Friday at 4:30 pm until Monday at 8:00 am (eastern).
