Job Summary In the ICU of a hospital, patients are often in critical condition and need constant monitoring and care. ICU nurses review data from special equipment to track a patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and other vitals. They also carry out more traditional nursing duties such as administering medications and communicating with patients regarding their condition. Essential Functions Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects. Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs. Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs. Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary. Job Summary A dialysis nurse is a registered nurse specialized in nephrology nursing. His/her work involves taking care of patients with impaired kidney function undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. The dialysis nurse must have an intricate knowledge of the mechanics of both types of dialysis; administer the dialysis from start to finish; discuss and explain concerns and answer relevant questions of the patient; and monitor and asses the patient’s vital signs and reaction to treatment Essential Functions The dialysis nurse is responsible for primary nursing duties for patients with kidney disease, which include routine assessments, determining risks, starting and monitoring dialysis, administering transfusions if necessary, recording chart data and information for the nephrologists or kidney doctors to assess the patient’s condition, as well as educating the patient about his or her treatment. Job Description The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist, NS35 NICU. Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing for Maternal Child Health, the successful candidate will: Serve as a content and clinical expert in the neonatal intensive care unit. Collaborate effectively as a team leader serving as a resource to the nursing staff, in order to optimize the delivery of patient care for this most fragile group of patients. Provide patent care service by evaluating current nursing practices, and plan, manage and deliver continuing nursing education and training for all nursing staff to meet any and all best practice initiatives put forth by professional organizations and regulatory agencies. Distinguishing Characteristics The Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) is a full performance level nurse position and possesses a license as a registered professional nurse in New York State; under the general direction of a higher level registered nurse or licensed health care provider, independently provides direct nursing care to individuals in accordance with Article 139 of the Education Law; supervises nursing care activities; and provides clinical supervision and training to Graduate Nurses (T&RC), Teaching & Research Center Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff. Illustrative Duties Prepares or assists with preparation of nursing care plans consistent with individuals’ comprehensive treatment plans and medical needs. Carries out treatment procedures, administers medications, and monitors individuals’ conditions. Records notes and maintains individuals’ medical records and nursing care plans, including nursing care, medications, and treatments, reactions to care and treatment, intake and output of liquids and solids, and vital signs.
