15 hours per week Qualifications: Current NYS Practical Nurse License, CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. Experience in pediatric and/or community or public health nursing (prior experience in school nursing preferred). Ability to assess the health needs of students and staff; and Must possess strong communication and organizational skills and be respectful of the confidentiality of others. Responsibilities: Assists the Registered School Nurse in physical, visual, and auditory screening examination of students and employees. Assists in administering first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees. Prepares and maintains health records and reports. Arranges for transportation of sick or injured students or employees to hospital, home, etc. Carries out routine therapeutic treatments such as preparing and applying dressings and administering certain medication upon specific instructions and/or supervision of the Registered Nurse. Maintains health office in an orderly manner and cares for the equipment used. Performs all other duties as assigned.

HOURLY RANGE: $28.04 - $37.33 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves performing routine nursing services at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation, including the Long-Term Care Facility, or Erie County Health Department Clinic. The incumbent provides routine nursing care to residents or patients, may assume charge responsibilities with minimal supervision and may perform higher level technical nursing tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, Physician or other higher-ranking professional of the department. Supervision may be exercised over Hospital/Institutional Aide. Does related work as required. Typical Work Activities Maintains equipment used in the care of patients; Administers and documents the administration of medications; Performs or assists with treatments and procedures; Teaches and/or assists with patient and family health care teaching as outlined on the care plan or as directed; Performs and records vital signs and weights; Administers internal feedings; Observes and monitors patient conditions and documents these in accordance with nursing standards; Informs nurse in charge of care provided to patients and status of patients’ condition; Reports incidents to nurse in charge; Develops and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and hospital personnel; Performs charge duties when necessary and as directed; Provides for patient safety and comfort; Performs tasks normally assigned to a Hospital/Institutional Aide; Transport patients in acute and long-term care facilities; Participates in In-service education.
