Interprets clinical data and notifies the physician promptly if immediate changes in management are indicated. Administers intravenous medications in compliance with policies and procedures. Titrates medicated infusions as per physician's prescriptive, protocols, and standard. Transports patients to operating room and from post anesthesia care unit. Checks to ensure that emergency equipment is on hand and in good working order. Recognizes and reports malfunction or failure of equipment used in the area to Biomedical Engineering; takes appropriate action to repair/replace such equipment (e.g., ventilators, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, suction apparatus, pumps, doppler, O2 tank, and pacemaker). Checks policy and procedures on proper handling of sharps. INDIRECT PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES Participates in interdisciplinary patient care rounds by presenting findings on patients. Apply principles of infection control and safety. Assists in the orientation of new personnel. Provides clinical supervision of LPNs, Certified Nursing Assistant, Ward Clerks and other ancillary staff. Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. Overview Provides professional nursing care under supervision for assigned patients in the Ambulatory Care Center according to established standards and practices. Answers patient questions and gives instructions on tests and procedures that are to be performed; attempts to reduce patient's anxiety and fear. Scheduling patient appointments on computerized system. Coordinates assignments to maintain patient flow throughout clinic. Description The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. This individual is also responsible for assisting with clinical, administrative and organizational tasks associated with patient care coordination. Responsibilities 1. Assists the provider during patient visit via obtaining vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pain scale etc) and documenting vital sign results and transcribing medication information into the electronic medical record (EMR). 2. Performs Phlebotomy services inclusive of collecting and processing blood, urine and stool specimens and use of a centrifuge for spinning bloods 5. Performs POCT (w/the exception of glucose) and documents results in EMR for provider to review 6. Performs daily Quality Control for all POCT equipment 7. Orders clinical supplies when necessary 8. Assists providers with follow-up related to patients on Coumadin therapy 20.
