Registered Nurse- Adult Medical Transitional (FT, 12 hr day shift)

Job Description The Adult Medical Transitional unit (30 beds) provides care to a diverse adult patient population with an emphasis on acute and chronic medicine patients. These patients require more frequent interventions (every two hours) and more nuanced nursing assessments. Patients transition from the adult critical care units, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Emergency Department and acute care floors to this unit, depending on their condition and nursing care needs. Patient population includes but is not limited to end stage renal disease, DKA, new arrhythmias, respiratory compromise, sepsis screening and infectious diseases. Patients on 14 Moffitt commonly have central lines, wound care, nasogastric tubes, Q2 medications, electrolyte replacements and require maximum assistance for activities for daily living. All beds have telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry monitoring capability. Nurses on this fast-paced, high acuity unit are a highly motivated group of professionals providing outstanding care to the entire patient populations served. Responsibilities Check patients in for their visits, running insurance, and collecting copays Schedule appointments or answer necessary questions during phone calls Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure Draw blood and preparation labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing Administer medications and vaccines via inter-muscular injections Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations Maintain complete and accurate documentation Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications Two-year college or technical school for Medical Assistant; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
