Equipped with private triage, delivery, antepartum and recovery suites, two large, private natural birthing suites, both with built-in warm water immersion (hydrotherapy) tubs, and operating rooms to support an optimized cesarean birth experience when necessary, the Family Birth Center was designed to optimize comfort, safety and options as you welcome your newest loved one. A Staff Nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision. Required Qualifications: Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing Associate Degree in Nursing; Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. Communicates shifts concerns by the unit to appropriate staff (via e-mails, voice mail, etc.). Review of 24 Hour Report and review patients as indicated for change of condition. Serves as the administrative authority for the smooth functioning of all units. Notifies the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, and Scheduler/Central Supply of urgent concerns during the shift. When the concern is non-urgent, notify the manager by phone message or e-mail. Receives employee, resident, and family grievances. Refers information to the appropriate manager. Assists nurses in completing risk assessments and investigations of injury. Notifies the Assistant Director of Nursing and Human Resources Director of identified learning needs. Receives employee call-offs. Records call-offs and updates schedule. Notifies managers/supervisors of call-offs in their units via voice mail. Replaces for absences and vacancies for upcoming shift(s). Assists staff with pick-up hours (call-in phone, e-mail, vacancy lists, 72-hour availability list). Works with the Staffing Coordinator and Director of Nursing to assure that vacancies are filled in advance. Performs rounds to monitor the conditions and care of acutely ill patients. Supervises staff and assures survey compliance daily. Provides guidance and support to staff to better plan workflow. Receives reports throughout the shift. Completes reports as needed and required. Assists nurses in assessing residents who are experiencing acute changes. Provides clinical expertise in the management of medical and psychiatric emergencies. Responds to code blue, medical assistance situations. Assists staff, as needed. Provides clinical expertise in medical management, crisis, and behavior management techniques. Audits charts routinely. Provides clinical expertise in documentation, including MDS, Medicare PPS, acute illness charting, weekly summaries, and care planning. Ensures timely notification of MD/Family Representatives where warranted. Obtains supplies from the medical supply after hours. Restocks the crash cart immediately after use. Directs staff response to emergencies, such as severe weather, fire, or other disaster scares. Participates in fire drills. Directs disaster evacuation plan, as needed. Meets routinely with the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing. Assists with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures. Attends facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Meetings. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Work experience as a professional nurse. CPR certification. We care for critically ill infants who are born at Rush and/or transferred in from network hospitals. Our patient mix ranges from extremely preterm infants to those with complex surgical needs. Our center has had consistent excellent outcomes in several major neonatal morbidities in very low birth weight infants within the Vermont Oxford Network. The Division partners with Obstetrics and Pediatric subspecialists to provide prenatal care and consultation through our multidisciplinary Fetal-Neonatal Center. Our productive NICU Human Milk research team at Rush conducts clinical and translational research in diverse areas: clinical, neurodevelopmental, and economic outcomes associated with mother’s own milk and donor milk, disparities in lactation, maternal, infant and milk microbiome, human milk science, and lactation physiology. The expectation for this role would be to care for a complex set of patients and work collaboratively with neonatologists, neonatal fellows, pediatric residents, and fellow Advanced Practice Providers. Responsibilities would include delivery room attendance and management, direct patient care, neonatal procedures, and neonatal transport. SUMMARY: The Wound Nurse is responsible for providing primary skin care to residents under the medical direction and supervisor of the residents’ attending physician, the Director of Nursing, or the Medical Director of the facility, with an emphasis on treatment and therapy of skin disorders. A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.
