The Oncology Nurse Manager working in our UT Physicians Women's Center (Southeast) acts as the primary clinical liaison for nursing staff, providing expert guidance, answering questions, coordinating onboarding, and delivering nurse training. Serving as both role model and mentor, this leader promotes a culture of compassion, innovation, and excellence in oncology nursing. With advanced clinical expertise, this role manages complex patient cases independently, ensures best practices across the team, mentors newer nurses, and actively contributes to developing clinical policies and procedures. Aims to provide care that is safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient and equitable, while mixing and administering chemotherapy to patients that have been diagnosed with gynecologic cancer. Leads efforts to ensure best practices are followed across the team, mentors and trains less experienced nurses, and actively contributes to the development of clinical policies and protocols. This role involves advanced patient care coordination, including the creation of individualized treatment plans, managing high-acuity cases, and leading quality improvement initiatives. Position Location: UT Physicians Women's Center - Southeast 11914 Astoria Blvd, Houston, 77089 Schedule: Full-Time, Mon-Friday Position Key Accountabilities: Provides oversight of nursing staff and acts as the central subject matter expert, provides guidance and addresses questions. Follows strict guidelines as provided by the package insert for mixing, storing, and administering chemotherapy drugs and other cancer treatments under the direction of the supervising provider, uses protective equipment and follows hazardous material disposal regulations. Assesses patients' health before, during and after chemotherapy treatments. Monitors for side effects, complications, and signs of infection. Documents patient responses to treatments. Performs on site and telephone triage using best practice guidelines and documentation to ensure patients receive the appropriate level of care in the right setting at the right time by the right caregiver using the approved equipment and supplies. Works closely with the supervising physicians and other healthcare professionals to create and implement treatment plans. Communicates any changes in patient conditions to the medical team. Assists in coordinating supportive care services like nutritional counseling, social services and palliative care. Maintains accurate patient records, including treatment plans, progress and side effects. Follows institutional policies, and USP 797 & 800 safety standards. Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPPA guidelines. Acts as a patient and healthcare advocate by maintaining a safe environment and promoting quality healthcare services. Adheres to standards of practice for professional nursing. Stays updated on advancements in chemotherapy treatments and oncology nursing best practices. Participates in continuing education, certifications and training programs. Partners with providers to establish and monitor clinical competencies and coordinates continuing education for nursing staff. Oversees onboarding of new nurses ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver safe and effective patient care. Evaluates directly or assists other providers in evaluating nursing staff. Educates patients and their families about chemotherapy, side effects, and self-care at home. Provides emotional support and counseling to patients coping with cancer. Teaches strategies for managing treatment-related symptoms. Assists clinical and administrative staff in formulating goals and objectives to meet both qualitative and quantitative outcomes. Analyze and interpret quality reports to identify trends, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement in patient care and operational performance of nursing staff. Operates and maintains IV infusion pumps and other chemotherapy delivery systems. Ensures proper sterilization and safety measures are followed. Maintains the COLA certification within the laboratory that enables the clinic to function by running CBCs prior to treatment where applicable. Communicates effectively with collaborative team while escalating critical results and issues in an appropriate and timely manner. Adheres to the standard of practice for professional nursing. Provides exemplary internal and external customer service. Participates in the development of nursing and clinical policies procedures, and competencies. Develops and/or acquires instructional materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to conduct training, continuing education and staff development. The APP works Monday through Friday, no nights/holidays/weekends. The hours are 530-1330. The APP will see all the neurosurgical consults that come to the hospital, answer phone calls for the service line, and assist the team with the initial evaluation and assessment of the neurotrauma patients in the ED or as direct admits to either the ICU, IMU, or floor. This APP will be trained to perform lumbar punctures, lumbar drains, craniotomy for insertion of ICP bolt monitor and/or ventricular catheters, scalp wound closures, removal of drains, and consenting patients for procedures and speaking to families about the patient's condition. UTHealth Neurosciences houses one of the largest and busiest neurosurgical programs in the country at Memorial Hermann TMC. We are currently looking for a PRN Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to support our neurosurgical service alongside our world-renowned neurosurgeons, neurosurgical residents, and fellows . The schedule is flexible and on an as-needed basis. The APP will be assigned one primary neurosurgeon and will see patients primarily in the outpatient setting. There will be some minor inpatient coverage during normal business hours (primarily helping with discharge, seeing established patients who present to the ED, answering patients’ questions via MyChart and by telephone, and assisting with care coordination). The UTH Neuroscience group boasts 75 highly skilled Advanced Practice Providers within the neurology, neurosurgery, and neurocritical care department, which fosters opportunities for mentorship and growth. POSITION SUMMARY: Provides patient care assistance in a clinic or hospital setting in one or more specialized areas under the direction of a primary care physician. POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Conducts complex, standardized patient care procedures that require experience and specialized training that would otherwise be performed by a physician but which do not constitute the practice of medicine. 2. Coordinates, directs and implements patient's plan of care. 3. Orders, conducts and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures. 4. Performs physical examinations and provides episodic care or problem-oriented care under the supervision of a physician. 5. Orders appropriate laboratory tests and interprets the laboratory data such as blood and urine samples. 6. Monitors the treatment program of the patient to inform the attending physician of pertinent medical information. 7. Makes medical recommendations and/or referrals. 8. Formulates, implements, and evaluates an outcome-based treatment plan. 9. Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. 10. Facilitates patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. 11. Collaborates with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in the patient's recovery. 12. Other duties as assigned. CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Nurse Practitioner: Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse Current Texas Licensure as an APRN-NP, and specialty certification as required by department Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified Physician Assistant: Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant Current Physician Assistant certification issued by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified Proficient in the use of medical and surgical instruments and equipment required by work. MINIMUM EDUCATION: Nurse Practitioner: Masters in Nursing as NP or master degree in Nursing with completion of a post-master Nurse Practitioner Certification Program. Physician Assistant: Master's degree as Physician Assistant. A Bachelor's degree as a Physician Assistant with at least two years of professional experience in the role is acceptable based on terminal degree requirements at the time of graduation.
