Position Objective: Provides psychiatric nursing care including intake, assessment and interventions (including crisis interventions). Provides care for psychiatric patients including medication administration and medication management as needed. For the inpatient unit, initiates the interdisciplinary care plan. For the mental health emergency department, collaborates with ED and MH team with final disposition authorized by the Emergency Department MD and Mental Health Clinician. Assists with discharge planning and education. Collaborates with all colleagues and communicates in a professional manner. Clinical Scholarship: Participates in QI, CPI and risk management activities at the unit, department or organizational level Demonstrates the ability to effectively perform and improve all processes in order to achieve excellence with regard to AAMC’s quality standards and benchmarks Supports the use of evidence based guidelines and organizational policies and procedures to promote safe patient care and a safe practice environment. Clinical Leadership : Participates in unit shared governance according to departmental standards Participates in the education and orientation of new staff Delegates patient care activities as appropriate; evaluates delegated activities for expected patient care outcomes Employs real time computer documentation when completing patient record. Performs charge nurse duties as needed and supervises other nursing staff as needed. Educational/Experience Requirements: 1 – 3 years-Psychiatric Nursing. Successful completion of approved nursing program. If not BSN, actively working on completion Required License/Certifications: Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Develops appropriate plan of care. Writes patient care orders, prescribes therapy, and provides necessary home care orders as needed. Identifies significant changes in patient status using physical exam, lab values, diagnostic tests, and patient/family input. Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings. Performs procedures as needed after obtaining appropriate credentialing. Participates in and/ or leads multidisciplinary patient care. Is a clinical resource for patient, parents and the interdisciplinary team. Appropriately communicates and escalates clinical/administrative issues. Collaborates with nursing, medicine, and other members of the healthcare team to regularly ensure quality patient care. Administrative Serves as a clinical preceptor to NP, CNS or PA students. Acts as a clinical resource for staff in patient care issues. Provides formal/informal educational presentation to staff on areas of expertise. Participates and leads quality improvement initiatives in their department. The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children’s National compensation philosophy.
