Summary This Part-time (.5 FTE) Research Nurse II in the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) / Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), is responsible for assisting faculty in the Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology Division with the conduction of Diabetes research studies. The incumbent will conduct participant diabetes education and training as required for research studies and administer medication. Will assist with other research study activities, including coordination of visits, participant enrollment, data collection, documentation, and safety of research participants. Lastly will assist with regulatory tasks and preparation of study data reports and related presentations and manuscripts. The position may include travel to other TCH sites (e.g., West Campus, etc.) to conduct research related activities. This role will identify study candidates, conduct informed consent, conduct study activities, including training study participants on the use of diabetes devices (e.g., insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors), assisting with device start and troubleshoot, as well as data download and interpretation and administer medication. Monitors, tracks, and adjusts insulin levels based on protocol. Collects and manages survey data, downloading data from diabetes management devices, and completes electronic medical record reviews. Screens Epic for eligible candidates and recruit, enroll and evaluate research visits with participant/family. Obtains informed consent/assent. Assists with manuscript writing, e.g., integrate comments from co-authors to revise a manuscript - Formatting of manuscripts to comply with guidelines for authors from scientific journals. Performs submissions of manuscripts to scientific journals. Assists with editing, formatting and submitting abstracts to scientific meetings. Produces reports of relevant research program data, for instance, human subjects tables for progress reports and grant applications to funding agencies. Provides regular updates to PI and other members of the research team. Assists with regulatory tasks (e.g., complete data required for IRB renewals, notes to file, reports). Summary The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (GHN) at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) is developing a team of close-knit Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners at the Texas Medical Center campus to be part of a dynamic and collaborative multidisciplinary medical team who will care for hospitalized patients with a variety of gastrointestinal and liver disorders. This position offers a unique experience on our in-patient service lines for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, build relationships with patients/families and be immersed in a highly educational environment with frequent opportunities to attend research lectures, pathology conference, and obtain CME through GI grand rounds and fellows workshops. The Division of GHN at TCH is currently ranked the #5 program in the country by US News and World Report and its faculty are internationally recognized clinical experts and researchers. As the largest children's hospital in the country, TCH is a major quaternary referral center for some of the rarest GI and liver disorders, allowing for unparalleled development of pediatric GI and hepatology expertise. Currently, three gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition in-patient service lines care for 20 - 35 patients per day with a wide range of gastrointestinal, liver, and nutritional disorders including but not limited to: inflammatory bowel disease, short bowel syndrome/ intestinal failure, gastrointestinal motility disorders, liver diseases, liver transplantation, and pancreas and bile duct abnormalities. Management of nutritional support in the form of enteral tube feeding and parenteral nutrition is also provided. The service line also performs a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The physician assistant/ instructor will work alongside faculty colleagues, pediatric gastroenterology and transplant hepatology fellows, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers and pediatric residents to care for this pediatric patient population in both the acute care and ICU settings. We seek individuals who are organized and detail-oriented and can work well with staff and faculty from different departments to coordinate outstanding patient care. Job Purpose Provides advanced patient care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care. Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management. Perform other job related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications For Nurse Practitioners: Masters degree in in Nursing. Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN), and with a mandatory acute care certification (CPNP-AC). For Physician Assistant: Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation. Experience Required: Relevant experience preferred but not required. Certification/Licenses/Registration: For Physician Assistant: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department.
