Job Description The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. Recognizes and appropriately reports to the physician and charge RN pertinent abnormal data and changes in the patient’s condition. EDUCATION: TCH does hire AD and Diploma nurses; however all nurses hired after January 2010 must receive their BSN within 5 years of the date of hire. RN’s who were employed at TCH prior to January 2010, and have more than 20 years of experience as an RN are permitted to pursue their BSN on a voluntary basis. A MSN or DNP are not required but supersede the requirement for the BSN. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: None required REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: The RN demonstrates the knowledge, abilities, and skills to provide age and culturally specific patient care and education. The RN effectively communicates with peers, utilizes appropriate channels of communication and maintains absolute confidentiality. The RN maintains competence and demonstrates evidence of continuing professional growth. Ensures that resident rooms, treatment areas, work areas and equipment are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner. People Management and Development - 10% Supervises CNAs. Fosters a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates employees. Interviews, selects, and orients new direct reports. Defines, establishes, and promotes performance expectations so direct reports understand and demonstrate excellence through high quality and consistent performance. Evaluates job performance of direct reports in accordance with the company policy and procedure and provides developmental guidance to staff for improved performance and growth. Monitors accountability with organization requirements prescribed by the Employee Handbook. Documents and engages employees who are routinely not observing these requirements in an effort to achieve compliance. Works with Human Resources when circumstances arise that necessitate further documentation and intervention. Participates in the development, planning, scheduling, conducting, and monitoring of in-service training programs, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for departmental staff. Ensures that there is a reasonable and sufficient plan for staffing should a direct report be absent or a direct reporting position be vacant. Qualifications Education Nursing degree from an accredited college, university or vocational school required. Current unencumbered license for the state of Ohio to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Experience One year of clinical experience in a hospital, long term care facility, or other related health care facility preferred. Supervisory experience in a long-term care, hospital, or other related healthcare setting preferred. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred. The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides residents and patients with the highest level of quality routine daily nursing care in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. Essential Activities and Tasks Care Management and Service Delivery - 80% Provides daily resident and patient care in accordance with the nursing procedures and as instructed by the Charge Nurse. Ensures that the Plan of Care is maintained for the resident or patient. Provides for assigned resident and patient Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including personal hygiene, elimination, comfort and safety, ambulation, lifting, skin care, nutrition, and hydration. Assists with the care of the dying resident and provides post-mortem care. Observes and reports the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdown. Assists with the application of nursing treatments as required. Provides daily rehabilitative/restorative procedures as required. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth and personal interest, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit. Answers resident calls promptly.
