About the Role The Certified Surgical Technologists is an allied health professional, who is an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. The Certified Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The Certified Surgical Technologist shall possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Certified Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative. procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Duties are as follows: STERILE PROCESSING DUTIES: Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, and assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Sort mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects, and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment. Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas. Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Maintains a clean work area. Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards. SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST DUTIES: Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure. Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed. Helps in draping sterile field. Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure. Prepares sterile dressings. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room. Assists in prepping room for the next patient. All other duties as assigned. ROBOTIC DUTIES: Able to answer both clinical and technical questions about the da Vinci surgical system Tasked with plan for sustainable growth of the robotics program Serves as main point of contact Enables surgeon access and facilitates best in class case support experience Targets and supports new surgeons interested in surgical procedures using the da Vinci system Coordinates and attends regularly scheduled robotic Steering Committees and provides operations updates on the progression of the program Works to configure the operation room ® in a way that is efficient for the use of a da Vinci surgical system Works with materials management to order da Vinci surgical instruments and accessories as needed Maintains lean par levels of all da Vinci surgical instruments and accessories that should be in stock Creates a metric tracking system for robotic cases to set benchmarks and evaluates progress towards the goals in reduction of non-operative time and more efficient OR workflow Based off usage metrics based on instrument utilization data, determines where it makes sense to create trays and where instruments should be peeled back Works with surgeons and nursing staff to lean out preference cards and determine which standing orders are needed for all robotic assisted procedures Works with the OR manager or charge nurse to ensure operating rooms, designated for robotic-assisted surgical cases, are properly staffed Works with the nursing staff to ensure robotic rooms have all ancillary supplies needed for robotic surgeries performed with a da Vinci surgical system Establishes a training pathway for all new hires or those that will be working in the OR designated for robotic-assisted surgical procedures, including assigning online modules, providing an in-service on the da Vinci surgical system, and observing cases Establishes clinical competencies for all staff involved in robotic-assisted surgical procedures and explains guidelines for annual testing to ensure those competencies are met Educates the OR staff on updates or new products used within robotic-assisted surgical procedures Troubleshoots any issues with the da Vinci surgical system during surgical procedures Initiates RMA process for damaged instruments and scopes Assists as scrub nurse or First Assist at patient side during robotic-assisted surgical procedures if applicable Responsible for maintaining, updating, and collecting the daily wrap-up sheet Responsible for storing other da Vinci surgical system documentation in a centralized location or dedicated binder such as a Communication Binder. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 3 Years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist Preferred, or equivalent Military training. Two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist and/or has demonstrated competency in two (2) or more specialty areas. About the Role The PAT/ PreOp/ PACU RN is responsible to handle inbound pre-operative patients to ensure patients receive quality pre-operative screening for our surgical procedures and Post anesthetic care patients emerging from the haze of anesthesia. There are several tasks a PACU nurse needs to perform in a post-operative unit such as guiding patients to consciousness and assisting them in handling personal needs in the first few hours after surgery. A PAT / PreOp / PACU nurse is important not just for their role as a guide in the outcome of a surgery but also for handling medication administration duties which are very important at this stage. Even though most patients do not remember the PAT / PreOp / PACU nurse that attended to their needs, they play an imperative role in helping patients start on the road to recovery. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Pre-admissions Testing Nurse Duties: Pre-admission testing nurse or PAT nurse duties include overseeing intake, during which you perform an initial physical assessment and interview the patient to obtain their medical history. PAT duties include performing any tests the surgeon has ordered, such as an EKG, and may be expected to draw blood for lab work. PAT nurses are often among the first people patients deal with as they prepare to have surgery. The PAT nurse is expected to help patients understand the process, answer any questions they might have, and discuss their post-surgical care plan with them. Preoperative Duties of Nurse: Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative department in a hospital. Assess the status of patients’ health in pre-op and ensure accuracy of identification wristband. Ensure that operative and informed consents are in order. Determine the surgeon and procedure being carried out. Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure. Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure and attending medical staff. Post-operative Duties of PACU Nurse: Assess patients’ condition after a surgery has been performed. Ensure that all vitals are within normal range. Log all findings in patients’ files. Answer patients’ questions and ensure that they are kept comfortable. Make sure that all relevant IVs are in check. Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient’s condition. Ensure that all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to the individual patient care plan. Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the doctor. Initiate patient education programs to ensure that both patients and families are educated on procedures and medications. Determine when patients are ready to be moved to their rooms. Here’s What You Need Nursing Diploma required or Associate’s degree in Nursing required or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred 1 year experience as registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required 1 year of Neonatal ICU experience strongly preferred Texas RN - Registered Nurse required upon hire and BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care required upon hire and maintained quarterly and NRP - Essential Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 90 days of hire and NRPA - Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 90 days of hire and CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required within 90 days of hire and maintained annually A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
